The San Fernando Pavilion will host the "Flechas Rosas" initiative on Friday afternoons, which aims to help in the rehabilitation of patients with breast cancer (22/01/2018)

It has been developed by the "Arco Lorca" Archery Club, the Mediterranean Food Foundation and the Virgen del Alcázar Hospital.

Patients will perform shooting exercises that will help to favor the natural drainage of the entire axillary area and perform activities on nutrition and healthy habits for recovery

The Councilor for Health of the City of Lorca, María del Carmen Ruiz, this morning attended the signing of an agreement between the Archery Club "Arco Lorca", the Food Foundation of the Mediterranean and the Virgen del Alcázar Hospital to develop the "Flechas Rosas" project, aimed at the rehabilitation of breast cancer patients.

María del Carmen Ruiz pointed out that "this is an initiative launched through AECC Lorca, since the recipients are those women with breast cancer who have undergone mastectomies (removal of the breast). lymph nodes are often removed from the armpit, so the drainage capacity is sometimes insufficient and the arm begins to swell due to the accumulation of fat under the skin, producing what is known as lymphedema. that they produce when tensing the arc they help to avoid that this ailment takes place, since they favor the natural drainage of all the axillary zone ".

The project "Flechas Rosas" was born in March 2017, when the president of the Arco Lorca Club, Paco Parra, saw a television report highlighting the benefits that his discipline brings to patients with this disease.

Immediately Arco Lorca contacted AECC Lorca and started the activity, which took place every Friday between March and June of last year.

The success was total and the project has grown, which has led the Lorca club to seek collaboration and support.

In this way, the Murcia Archery Federation takes over the insurance and the City of Lorca cedes the lower part of the San Fernando Pavilion, where the activity will be held every Friday from 17 to 19 hours.

For its part, the Food Foundation of the Mediterranean and the Hospital Virgen del Alcázar de Lorca will finance the whole project and will carry out a series of activities aimed at training participants in healthy eating and habits for their recovery.

The Councilor for Health has congratulated "these entities for launching this beautiful initiative that helps to continue with the recovery of patients who have gone through this harsh disease and brings them great benefits through sports and healthy eating" and has remembered that "performing mammograms regularly is the most effective way to prevent the development of breast cancer, a simple test that gives us peace of mind, safety and, in the worst case, the possibility of early treatment with the best guarantees If you are between 45 and 69 years of age, it is recommended to have a mammogram every two years, it is a quick test, which hardly bothers you and is completely free, and doing it is as easy as going to the scheduled appointment or requesting a new one. at your Health Center, they will tell you where and when to go. "
