The PSOE meets with the permanent staff of Rafael Méndez to address the problem of lack of health personnel (14/02/2018)

Sánchez Jódar demands the equalization of the staff of area III to the regional average and the improvement of working conditions for workers.

The labor instability that the hospital management promotes due to the policy of junk contracts, added to the saturation that they suffer due to lack of personnel, is causing the flight of professionals.

In addition, the mayor claims to reinforce primary care as the first bastion of the health system to which the user goes, and thus avoid saturation of emergency services.

The deputy spokesman of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, Marisol Sanchez met yesterday with the permanent Board of Staff of Rafael Méndez to address the problem due to lack of human resources in the hospital Lorca as well as in the whole area III health .

During the meeting, they put on the table the need to hire more health personnel in order to match the current ratios, at least, to the regional average.

Sánchez Jódar returns to denounce that Rafael Méndez and the entire health area III are "far below" the rest of hospitals in the Region in terms of health personnel.

Sánchez Jódar requires equalization of the health staff of area III of health to the regional average

Sánchez Jódar recalls that one of the "most worrying" cases is represented by nurses in area III.

Lorca is "at the tail" of the Region, Spain and the European Union in number of nurses per 1,000 inhabitants.

In fact, in area III it would be necessary to hire 364 new nurses to reach only the national average.

The situation of the rest of the staff of health workers "is not much more promising".

The "asymmetric" distribution of personnel is evident in most of the personnel chapters of area III, in comparison with the rest of the health areas of the Region.

Sánchez Jódar recalls that the requirement that Rafael Méndez and Area III be equated in human resources to the rest of hospitals and areas of the Region was one of the demands that they brought before the Ombudsman.

An initiative with which the socialists reinforce their "continuous struggle" to ensure that the Lorca hospital has the necessary human and technical resources to reduce the pressure on workers and offer "guarantee" health care.

Job insecurity is causing the flight of professionals from area III

Job precariousness also affects health personnel in area III.

Sánchez Jódar ensures that the management model applied by the different departments assigned to Area III is causing the departure of many professionals.

The "garbage" contracts for fifteen days, the non-creation of places or the lack of substitutions of vacancies in periods of sick leave, added to the lack of personnel, generates a "climate of labor instability" that makes professionals choose to leave to other health areas of the Region "as soon as possible" in search of better working conditions.

In line with this problem, the socialist mayor announced that she has requested, through a written question to the Regional Minister of Health in the Regional Assembly, information on the evolution of the budget of the personnel chapter of area III since 2015.

The PSOE calls for strengthening primary care as the main bastion of the health system to which the patient goes

Sánchez Jódar claims improvements also to strengthen the primary care service, the first bastion of the health system to which the patient goes.

The closing of consultations in the afternoon has deteriorated the primary care system, and is the direct cause of the saturation of emergency services, both Sutullena and Rafael Méndez.

The PSOE returns to claim that Lorca has an MRI service

Another issue that was put on the table was the lack of equipment.

One of the most "flagrant" deficiencies is the absence of an MRI service at Rafael Méndez.

Sánchez Jódar assures that it is "inconceivable" that a general hospital like Lorca does not have a service so demanded and with which the main hospitals of the Region do.

In addition, Sánchez Jódar has shown how the lack of this service in Rafael Méndez "clashes" with the "proliferation" of "private" magnetic resonance units in the immediate vicinity of the hospital "except where it has to be: in the Rafael Méndez ".

The lack of personnel and technical means, the precarious working conditions of the professionals and the deterioration of primary care, as a result of the disastrous health policy of the Popular Party, are the causes of the increase in waiting lists, the delay in diagnoses and therefore, of a greater health expenditure and, most worrying, of the deterioration of health care.
