Adoración Peñas, councilor of IU-Green of Lorca has criticized that the City Council has given green light to promoters to build a private educational center in front of the San Fernando neighborhood with an investment of 1.8 million euros, promoters who have nothing see with education, since their businesses come from service stations or hotel activity.

The center in question for Infant, Primary, Secondary and Baccalaureate Education (with the intention of offering university master's degrees and other training modules) plans to have a constructed area of ​​4,039 m² and plans to settle in an area that is receiving an urban impulse in the surroundings of Sutullena, next to the starting point of the old Carretera de Águilas and in front of the roundabout of the Barrio de San Fernando.

Peñas has stated that, although the municipal declarations affirm that it is the first action in our municipality tending to endow Lorca with a completely private Educational Center without resorting to the educational concert, experience shows that in the end it is concluded by the center the route of urgency, with the damage it would cause to public centers.

In fact, the mayor, ensures that the current ratios and low birth rates, do not show that the construction of a new private center is needed, especially when there are four public centers nearby such as San Fernando, José Robles, San José and Campillo (in addition to Ana Caicedo who is nearby) and says that these centers will be harmed by the new project.

For IU-Green it is fundamental to defend the public school, which is for everyone, regardless of the economic level of the families and regret that the governments of the PP only look after the interests of the private school to the detriment of the public.
