The Community grants Lorca 1.2 million to boost its labor market (28/02/2018)

Participants will be mainly people with special difficulty in accessing the labor market, such as unemployed people over 45 years of age, young people or the long-term unemployed.

The Ministry of Employment, Universities and Enterprise, through the Employment and Training Service (SEF), has granted this year to the City of Lorca eight employment programs that, with a total of 1,217,000 euros, will provide training and a job opportunity to 104 unemployed, which will contribute to boost the labor market of the municipality.

These initiatives are aimed primarily at the groups that find greater difficulties in accessing the labor market, such as the unemployed over 45 years of age, young people and the long-term unemployed.

Specifically, the Consistory of the City of the Sun will develop six programs of local public employment that will allow you to directly hire 40 unemployed people: nine unemployed in general, ten young people who do not study or work with beneficiaries of Youth Guarantee and 21 long-term unemployed.

These people, who will be part of the municipal staff for six months, will work in different departments of the local administration.

Likewise, the City Council of Lorca will develop with the support of the Community two mixed employment and training programs that, through the alternation of theory and paid work, will encourage 64 unemployed people to improve their qualification by specializing in different professional sectors, especially in those that are creating employment in the municipality, such as energy or urban development, among others.

In this way, 32 unemployed in general will specialize for twelve months to work, for example, as gardeners, plumbers or electricians, among other professions.

All of them will take three months of theoretical classes and nine months of practice, for which they will be hired by the City of Lorca to perform tasks related to the specialties in which they are trained.

Another of these programs that combines training and effective work is aimed at beneficiaries of Youth Guarantee, with which 32 unemployed under 30 years will improve their position in the labor market specializing in sectors such as forest conservation, gardening or masonry.

This initiative has a subsidy of 262,300 euros, co-financed by the European Social Fund.

Once completed their training, students of these two programs will obtain a certificate of professionalism, valid throughout the national territory, which will accredit their skills in the professional branch in which they have been trained.

The general director of the SEF, Alejandro Zamora, visited today, together with the Councilor for Local Development, Sandra Martínez, the La Torrecilla Occupational Training Center, where several employment programs are currently being developed.

"The collaboration of the regional government with the municipalities in the development of active employment policies is allowing us to work in a double sense: in improving the employment options of people who do not have work, providing free and quality training, and on the other hand, in the impulse of the local productive fabric, which in order to continue growing needs qualified workers ", said Zamora.

Good employment data

During his visit to the municipality, the director general of the SEF and the head of the Department of Local Development analyzed, among other issues, the positive evolution of employment data in the town, where unemployment has decreased by 6.8 percent in last year, which means a decrease of 375 unemployed.

With regard to the creation of employment, the number of members of the Social Security has increased by 1,002 people over the last twelve months, which represents an increase of 3.07 percent, placing the number of affiliates in the municipality in 33,678 people.
