The PSOE denounces the daily overcrowding of the emergency service of Rafael Méndez de Lorca (14/03/2018)

Sánchez Jódar demands Gil Jódar that in the "new Lorca" proclaimed by the Popular Party contemplate a new expansion of the emergency area of Rafael Méndez and the hiring of health personnel necessary to improve the quality of care, solve the saturation of patients and reduce the pressure of the workers

The deputy spokesperson of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, Marisol Sánchez has denounced the overcrowding recorded daily by the emergency service of the Rafael Méndez General University Hospital, with the overflow of the observation room or the middle care room.

Sánchez Jódar has shown that, due to lack of space and the necessary health personnel, the Emergency Department of Rafael Méndez has been "up to the top" for a long time.

The saturation that is recorded daily in Observation is "unbearable" both for patients and for the workers themselves.

This room, with a maximum capacity of 13 beds, is having to accommodate up to 20 and 22 patients daily, which shows the need to "expand" these facilities, as it has been claiming since 2009 by the staff of the house.

The crowding of patients in this room makes it "impossible" that the beds can be separated by screens or even by the own curtains enabled, so "there is no privacy" to treat patients, in addition to accessibility problems for the own personnel, because "there are no gaps between the beds to circulate".

Sánchez Jódar insists that the current infrastructures and spaces available to staff have remained "small" and are "insufficient" to take care of patients under acceptable conditions.

In fact, the saturation reaches the point that the emergency care room has become an improvised pre-hospitalization room due to lack of beds.

This space welcomes both emergency patients, who are waiting to learn their results, as well as those with confirmed pathologies waiting for bed to enter the plant.

This overcrowding of patients highlights, therefore, the need for the Rafael Méndez emergency service to have more extensive facilities, since the current "do not give for more".

Sánchez Jódar has shown that the "extra" reinforcement of personnel that was made in the face of the flu epidemic, and that is expected to be operational until March 15, is "insufficient".

So much so, that sometimes it has had to "reinforce the reinforcement" with a nurse and a nursing assistant more, but even so, it is "short" taking into account the lack of staff that suffers Lorca hospital with with respect to the rest of public hospitals in the Region.

The mayor also warns that the situation can be "really complicated" with the arrival of Holy Week, a date in which, as usual, there are staff reductions for vacation periods.

Sánchez Jódar has reported that, due to the seriousness of the matter, this situation has been addressed on numerous occasions by the Personal Board of Rafael Méndez.

In addition, remember that just now is one year of the requirement that CC.OO made in this same sense, on the need to expand these infrastructures and spaces, and to hire more health personnel.

However, one year later, "nothing has been fixed".

Sánchez Jódar has joined these requests and has demanded the current Mayor that in his "new Lorca" proclaim, contemplate the extension of these "totally obsolete" infrastructures and intercede so that the SMS destines the necessary health personnel.

In addition, Sánchez Jódar calls for consolidation of the provisional reinforcement hired on the occasion of the flu epidemic, so that it is extended and will not cease to be operational as of the next day 15.
