The Los Peñones Park, located in the San Antonio neighborhood, will improve its vegetation, irrigation network, lighting and urban furniture thanks to a municipal investment of 7,500 euros (16/03/2018)

The Local Development Councilor of the City of Lorca, Sandra Martinez, has visited this morning the beginning of the improvement works and adaptation that will be carried out in the park of Los Peñones, located in the Barrio de San Antonio, by students of the different Employment and Training Programs.

Sandra Martinez pointed out that "the Los Peñones park is located on the left side of the Rambla de Los Peñones, today it is unlit and with picnic tables, barbecues and banks damaged due to vandalism as well as the three petanque courts Thanks to the improvements that will be made by 36 beneficiaries of the "Lorca Eficiente", "EntreBarrios" and "Flora" programs, work will be carried out on demolitions, gardening, street lighting, masonry and painting.

The Local Development Council has detailed that "specifically, the actions to be carried out are the demolition of the existing work booth in the petanque area, will join the two areas of stay of the park that are divided by a hedge of cypress, this hedge is sick and in poor condition, the irrigation hoses will be replaced by new ones, improving the distribution of water and making the watering of the trees more efficient, the pruning of bushes and vegetable plants of the park will be done and will proceed to plant 7 trees in the holes that are missing, in particular, 4 fruitless mulberries in picnic area and 3 almeces in parking area ".

Martínez added that "in addition, 2,500 ml of stolen cable will be replaced to put the public lighting of the park back into service, the 17 existing luminaries that are damaged due to acts of vandalism will be replaced and the public lighting box will be replaced by another with greater electrical protections, providing it with hourly lighting control (until midnight) independent for the use of the sports court that will work with a pushbutton, which is illuminated with four towers of foci.The two existing kitchens will also be cleaned and repaired. the recreation area, replenishing the grills of the barbecues and fallen stones, the 8 benches in the area of ​​stay and rest will be renewed, placing them anchored to foundations, the hedge fence that delimits the parking area will be replaced by stone bowls great tonnage and, finally, we will proceed to paint the 8 picnic tables, the existing banks in the perimeter of

the soccer field, as well as the two goals and the 17 columns of the streetlamps, and geronto-gym equipment will be installed. "

The Local Development Council has indicated that "once these works are developed, in which 7,500 euros will be invested and the execution period is two months, the park, which has a total area of ​​5,900 m2, will have a small parking area, a recreation area with shade trees, two kitchens for outdoor fire, eight picnic tables and a fountain with two taps for drinking water, a playground for children equipped with a slide, a double swing and a dock, a zone of stay and rest with wooded of shade where there are placed 8 banks and a sports area composed of a track of soccer in earth and three tracks of petanque with trees of shade ".

Sandra Martínez said that "the objective of these improvement and renewal actions is for these people to train and learn a trade while performing tasks aimed at improving neighborhoods, districts, watercourses, parks and gardens of the municipality. so that Lorca continues to reduce unemployment figures faster than the regional and national average, with a decrease in unemployment of almost 3,000 people in the last four years, which places us in the best employment figures since the beginning of 2009. "
