New robes for the bearers of the standards of San Juan and Magdalena (27/03/2018)

Apollo, the "Celajes" of Cayuela or a new suit for Nefertari are added to the cloths of San Juan and Magdalena that already escort the Stma.

Virgen de los Dolores to create a parade with many of its elements renewed

La Hermandad de Labradores, Paso Azul, has announced its premieres for Holy Week this year 2018. The presentation has been attended by the President, José María Miñarro, the President of the Association of Our Lady of Sorrows, Joaquina Gil and the artistic director of Paso Azul, Miguel García Peñarrubia.

Miñarro pointed out that "with the work we are presenting today in the incomparable environment that the cloister of the Blue Museum offers us, we continue advancing in the restoration and improvement of our biblical and religious procession.

A procession that goes out to the street by and for the Virgen de los Dolores, for what always, and how can it be otherwise, we seek the excellence that historically has characterized the Paso Azul ".

In this sense, Miguel Garcia Peñarrubia said that "during this last year the workshops of the Brotherhood of Labradores have not stopped working to offer some embroidery of the highest quality, always following the traditional techniques of embroidery of our city that have made us deserving of the candidacy to Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO ".

Particularly noteworthy is the creation of four tunics for the bearers of the San Juan and Magdalena standards.

Designed following the ornamental style of the early twentieth century, when they were embroidered.

In the making of these tunics has prevailed, after a work of contextualization and research, the constancy of style to enhance the legacy of the teacher Francisco Cayuela to the Brotherhood of Labradores and the Holy Week of Lorca.

They incorporate blue satin cuffs and a sash that completes the ensemble.

This innovative element has been inspired by the costumes of the Virgin's cup-holders, having been embroidered on a satin fabric of the same color as the robes of the holders of the blue holder.

The realization of these tunics has had the collaboration of the City of Lorca within its programs to promote the tradition of Lorca embroidery.

To this we must add the mantle of the "Celajes", again designed by Cayuela and that arrives to complete the group of the 'Explorers that Moses sent to the Promised Land "representing the days and nights spent during the long journey in the desert for the Jewish people until they reach Israel.

In the same way a new butler's robe has been completed to cover the needs of the fraternity.

Designed by Miguel García Peñarrubia as stipulated in the Statutes of the Brotherhood of Labradores, has a rich decoration of plant motifs that accompanies the emblem of Paso Azul on the upper left side and the Marian anagram on the lower part of the back side.

On the other hand, following the line taken by José María Miñarro to almost completely renew the procession of Paso Azul since his arrival to the presidency, the Apollo cloak has been restored.

This emblematic mantle has been part of the blue procession - in different configurations - for more than a century.

Designed by Francisco Cayuela, it represents on crimson satin a bust of the god to which it refers.

Being part of the Cavalry of the Mythological Gods or Triumph of Christianity, has been restored adjusting the works to the international criteria that are established for interventions in textiles affected by the passage of time or factors of biodeterioration.

In addition, the new costume for the character of Nefertari has been made.

Embroidered in silks and gold on purple satin, it depicts various Egyptian motifs.

In the same way, with the aim of completing this colorful group, more than a hundred costumes have been executed for the slaves who accompany the royal wife of Ramses II as they pass through the main artery of our city on Palm Sunday.

Finally, the second Paso Azul embroidery workshop, made up of women from the Ntra. Señora de los Dolores Association who work voluntarily, has completed the works of the belts and necks of 16 Egyptian slaves embroidered in silks, gold and rhinestones

Miñarro, in the name of all the blues, wanted to congratulate "Miguel García Peñarrubia, all the embroiderers, the head of the workshop, Juan Carlos Peñarrubia, the Association of the Virgin of Dolores and all the people who have participated in this intense year of work that will allow us to carry out these spectacular and numerous premieres ".

Finally, from the Paso Azul it has been recalled that, as is usual, before the demand of Lorca and visitors, the MASS will be open throughout the Holy Week.

From the direction of the Museum and from the different Work Commissions

an extra effort will be carried out with the objective that the thousands of people who will visit Lorca during these days can know the largest exhibition space in the Region of Murcia, which will only close the afternoons of the procession.

Thus, during the days of Monday, Tuesday and Holy Wednesday may be visited in the morning and afternoon, while Thursday and Good Friday will open from 10 to 15 hours.

The access will have a special cost of 2 euros for adults and 1 euros for children, being exempt from payment both stewards and associates.

At the same time you can visit the traditional exhibition of the church of San Francisco with free access.
