Holy Week breaks its ceiling of visitors (03/04/2018)

The Mayor highlights the commitment to quality and art by the Steps, as well as the determination and know-how of all the processionists, who have made this year's fashion shows a milestone of excellence.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, reported that once collected all the data provided by the technical staff of the different municipal areas, his balance tells us that the Holy Week that we just enjoyed has managed to break the ceiling of public, established in 341,000 people, up to 345,000, according to the general figures available to the City Council.

The First Edil has affirmed that the common challenge of Lorca is to continue recording progressive increases of visitors to our Biblical-Pastoral parades, which constitute the most important religious, cultural and popular expression of our entire region, reflecting an unparalleled spectacularity and fervor.

Our Holy Week, as the main Lorca event, is also the flag of our tourism brand, having been given the necessary boost by the different Steps to help our processions attract tourists beyond the strictly Holy Week period.

For this achievement, the embroidery museums are key, receiving thousands of visits throughout the year in which the main differentiating element of our parades is revealed, such as embroidery.

Fulgencio Gil has said that the excellence of Easter in Lorca is being achieved thanks to the efforts of thousands of Lorca, through the different brotherhoods, make it possible each year we surpass in elegance, art and spectacular.

It is a fact that the staging that takes place in our city with the presence of our embroidery deserves its recognition as Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

This is a distinction that we will achieve at the time, but whose concession will only come to highlight evidence, that Lorca's Holy Week is Marca España, and that what a whole town is capable of doing here has been elevated to a Outstanding excellence level.

The First Mayor wanted to thank the effort that has been carried out by each and every one of the Lorca who have participated in one way or another in the parades of our Holy Week.

We must highlight the group of embroiderers, artistic directors, mayordomos and processionists, who this year have been able to mark a new milestone of magnificence.

This year we have met with several adverse circumstances, which the different Steps have been able to face with the calm and pride that characterize the Lorca.

It is easy to enjoy and move forward a procession when everything is quiet, but it has been before the difficulty when the processionists have given their faces, and that Lorca will always appreciate it.

Fulgencio Gil has opted to increase the commitment to excellence, art and rigor in our processions.

The figures that this Holy Week leaves us are an encouragement to move forward.

Lorca is more proud than ever of her Steps, and we have the opportunity to continue raising the bar a little higher every year, even if it is difficult.

The Mayor, entering into concrete figures, has indicated that the attention to visitors and tourists (excluding those also made to Lorca) in the different Tourist Information Points enabled during the Easter period has exceeded all expectations, surprising even the staff that attended them by the number of people who required information.

This year, as a novelty, we have noticed the presence of more organized groups at the counters than the previous year.

The same has happened with the group of relatives and friends that has also been more numerous than in previous years.

The assessment made by the Office of Tourism is very positive, since from all the Information Points it has been able to provide services to 7,844 visitors and tourists (without counting the Lorca) and has resulted in a positive balance of 42'67% with respect to the previous year.

Both domestic and foreign tourists and those from the region of Murcia have had a positive balance of 43.43%, 40.46% and 42. 67% respectively.

We are talking about some figures that certify the progress of our Holy Week as the main tourist attraction.

These numbers are added to the increase of 10% compared to 2017 offered by overnight stays in hotels in our city, while guided tours have also had a positive balance of 63%.

The increase in sales of the Tourist Office compared to last year shows an increase of 172%.

The attention to Spanish tourists has increased, going from 3,585 in 2017 to 5,142 this year.

Most of these came from Madrid, Alicante, Barcelona, Andalusia and the Basque Country.

With regard to international tourism, 1,280 attentions have been made, which contrast with 922 last year.

Stresses the presence of English, French, German and Dutch.

The logistics device deployed by the City Council has responded to the needs of the parades, highlighting the importance of the tents installed in different streets near the area through which pass the biblical-passional parades.

These infrastructures showed their functionality before the appearance of rains, both Friday of Dolores and Domingo de Ramos, allowing the rich artistic heritage of the different brotherhoods to count on places of refuge that have avoided damages to images and embroideries.

We must remember that 8 tents were set up in IES Ramón Arcas, Donantes de Sangre streets, Poeta Carlos Mellado and Presbítero Emilio García, as well as in Santo Domingo, Paso Blanco, San Cristóbal and Plaza del Negrito.

There were also 29 portable chemical toilets and 8 for people with reduced mobility.

The municipal electrical service, for its part, proceeded to install a battery of 70 extraordinary lighting projectors, aimed at improving the lighting of parking areas, streets, church doors and lighting reinforcement for the celebration of processions.

An emergency generator was located to service the race in case of a voltage drop or a simple breakdown, in addition to the general revision of the public lighting of the city center and the adjustment of the astronomical clocks to guarantee any anomaly that could harm our Holy Week processions.

For the days of Holy Week there were extraordinary electrical service checkpoints, made up of three electricians, to meet the needs of the different acts outside of working hours.

No relevant eventualities have been recorded in the development of this entire device.

Lorca Taller del Tiempo recorded during the period between Friday of Dolores until Easter Sunday a significant increase in the sold tickets, amounting to 4,306, which represents an increase of 55.68% over the same period of the previous year.

There is also an increase of 78.55% in tourist train tickets.

The security and emergency device established by the City Council in coordination with the different bodies and security forces of the state has not recorded incidents of relevance.

We must highlight, with very few exceptions, the good behavior of the citizens who have contributed to the minimal incidents and the great work of the professionals of the emergencies who have made 27 attentions, with only 6 trips to the Rafael Méndez Hospital.

The special plan provided by the municipal cleaning company, Limusa, has also been met with very positive data:
