Fulgencio Gil: "Lorca are closer than ever to get the arrival of the High Speed Rail that will communicate with the Mediterranean corridor" (12/04/2018)

The construction project of the stretch Lorca-Sangonera gives a decisive boost for the municipality to enjoy the AVE and recover the lost connection with Andalusia.

The document includes the construction of a new station in San Diego and the expansion and improvement of the one currently serving the hamlet of La Hoya.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, has reported the achievement of a new and decisive progress in the process of arrival of the High Speed and the Mediterranean Railway Corridor to our city, as is the imminent departure to public exhibition of the Construction Project of Platform of the Mediterranean High-Speed Corridor Murcia-Almería, specifically the section Sangonera-Lorca.

This advance is added to the same step forward made a few days ago with respect to the Lorca-Pulpí section.

Fulgencio Gil said that the Government of Spain is moving forward to enable the arrival of High Speed to our city as soon as possible.

We are talking about a service that will allow us to enjoy a network of state-of-the-art railway communications, fully operational and at the forefront of technology at all levels.

The arrival of the AVE to Lorca is closer than ever thanks to the drafting of the platform construction project of the Mediterranean corridor in the stretch that has to unite with Murcia.

It is an ambitious project, which we have waited for many years, and which is going to get fully into the High Speed Rail.

We are talking about a project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Plurirregional program of Spain 2014-2020, aiming to achieve sustainable transport.

The document refers to the works to build a railway platform for dual track suitable for mixed traffic with characteristics such as to allow speed between 250 and 300 km.

We must point out that the extension of the Mediterranean Corridor that will connect our city with Almería and Murcia is an action contemplated in the Infrastructure Plan of the Government of Spain, included within the Levante Corridor and the Mediterranean Axis.

The First Edil has anticipated that the document will be available to all concerned both on the website of the City Council and in the venues of the neighborhood groups of the districts through which it runs, as well as the Department of Urban Planning.

The City Council encourages all citizens to consult it, anticipating the collaboration and advice of municipal technical services, as has been done with the Lorca-Pulpí section, including making available a technician in the field to clarify any question about it.

We will be with the neighbors before any incident they want to move us, so we encourage them to participate in the period of public exposure established to achieve the best possible solution to each situation.

The solution that is adopted at the end of the stretch, at the current San Diego stop, is configured so that during the burial works (currently in the Informative Study stage), Iberian gauge traffic can have it as a terminating station.

In fact, we can anticipate the construction of a new station in San Diego, more modern, functional and operative, which will replace the current station, as well as the extension of La Hoya.

During the execution of the works corresponding to the actions included in the project, the railway traffic will be maintained.

The layout of the platform for the train is designed to allow a speed of 300 km / h, except in the urban sections, in accordance with the existing safety regulations.

The section that will be improved by the application of the current project presents a triple track section: platform executed for double UIC and another single track platform in Iberian gauge in service.

Its layout is formed exclusively by a straight alignment in which the Hoya Station is located, for which the mango tracks and the necessary track apparatuses are designed.

The planned action for the section corresponding to the departure of the train towards Murcia envisages to extend the current routes to connect with the proposed route for the Lorca San Diego station.

Station of La Hoya

A scheme is proposed that makes it possible to take advantage of the existing platform in La Hoya so that it can provide service for the users of trains in Lorca sense.

To avoid crossings of roads at the level, the execution of a platform and a section road on the general left track is proposed, for Murcia-oriented trains.

The station of the Hoya is extended by arranging a section road on its left side.

In this way, exploitation in the first phase will be on the opposite side of the current one, for which a platform is designed between the left and the left.

In order to adapt this station to the new railway layout and operation, the actions to be carried out at the La Hoya station are the following:

- New platform 210 meters long by a width of 6.38 m.

- Prolongation of the current platform in a length of 24.17 m.

- Extension of the current underpass in a length of 23 m that will give access to the new platform through fixed stairs and lift, also of new execution.

A staircase with restricted access is envisaged in anticipation of a future technical platform for goods stops.

- Marquee on the new platform and embouchure, as well as shelter on the new platform.

San Diego Lorca Station

It has 2 platforms of 210 m in length.

The left one besides giving service to the general left track in the first phase will give service on the south side to a provisional track in Iberian gauge.

The station of Lorca San Diego, the last of the section, like the rest, will allow in a first phase the stop of commuter traffic in Iberian gauge.

For this purpose, there is a platform that will only serve on its left side (southern slope).

This way of section, is connected with the route of the current line after the station.

The two general roads in the station will be served by two platforms (left center with Iberian gauge tracks, and right with UIC gauge track).

These two roads will be used in a second phase only for stop and parking of circulations in UIC gauge, which will be circulating on the right.

In this phase, commuter traffic will continue on the left.

In the final phase, the Iberian gauge tracks are dismantled, leaving a station with stops on general tracks in UIC gauge.

The route plan proposed for this station will be the same as for the previous Cercanías stations, but it will also be taken into account that they can stop long and medium distance trains, during the phase of underground works of the Lorca-Sutullena station.

The proposed new position of the platforms corresponding to the railway line as it passes through the town of Lorca-San Diego, is displaced towards the Murcia side, approximately 150 meters, so it is proposed to build a new passenger building located at 185 meters from the current one.

The construction project contemplates for this stop a specific functional program that has been designed to be compatible with the provisional phase during the period of the burial works of the Lorca Sutullena station and with the final situation, once the works of the new layout, so that it works as an independent station.

Therefore, Lorca San Diego station will provide Long and Medium Distance services that are currently operated in Lorca Sutullena, in addition to the Cercanías service.

It will shelter some of the uses that derive from the current station of Sutullena to be later transferred again to the future station of High speed of Lorca.

These different scenarios imply the need to rearrange the environment and have a new parking and urbanized area.

The new car park, which will have 40 seats, is located next to the existing car park, so in case of need it can be extended and controlled.

In addition, there will be places reserved for the disabled, for Adif staff and for motorcycles.

In the same access square there is reserved an area for the stop of an urban bus or a bus for possible incidents, a stop for taxis and a zone of fast stop or Kiss & ride.

A parking for bicycles is also provided.

Given that the railway traffic will be cut from this station, an incident or transhipment bus stop area is proposed next to the existing station to serve the stations of Puerto Lumbreras, Almendricos and Pulpí.

It is planned to replace the passenger building with a new building that will be compatible with the operation of the station during the provisional phase and as an independent station once the burial works are completed, so a new building is proposed

Access to the new property in the provisional situation will be frontal, with the possibility of creating a larger square in front of the façade, depending on the situation of provisionality and the wishes of the City Council to continue at any given time Canal Street San Diego.

In the future situation a square with a wooded area and bicycle parking will be created.

The design of the passenger building will respond to its use as a passenger station for medium and long distance.

The execution of a double-height lobby that will constitute the main volume is planned.

To one side are grouped the provisional uses: block of public toilets, box office area and customer service, locker room of Renfe personnel, circulation and cleaning, and cleaning warehouse of trains with direct access to the platform.

On the other side of the vestibule, the lost goods warehouse is projected, which in the definitive situation will become the toilets and storage area of the station, the cafeteria next to the main façade and the facilities rooms.

The design and construction will allow both situations to be compatible.

The so-called provisional uses will be included in a removable modular building, in order to take advantage of these modules for the future station of Lorca Sutullena.

The San Diego station will be equipped with the following services:

Two platforms of 210 meters in length, with an average width of 4.50 of the lateral platform linked to the passenger building and another central of 8.80 m.

The passage between platforms will be made through underpass under 3 m wide freeways and 14.5 m long.

The access to the central platform will be through stairs and fixed ramps.

The station will be equipped with the elements and routings according to the accessibility regulations.

Both the stairs and the ramps will be covered by canopies.

In addition, a shelter will be available on the central platform, closed and covered.

Between lanes 3 and 5 there will be two technical steps of 180 and 200 meters respectively for the washing of trains.

At the end of the 180-m step next to lane 3, there is a 20 m technical platform that will communicate with the passage on tracks.

Urbanization and Parking

The project contemplates the execution of a new parking and the urbanization of the surroundings of the passenger building.

The characteristics of the parking are as follows

- Parking for 40 vehicle seats

- 4 seats reserved for the staff of the station

- 2 places for people with reduced mobility

- 10 places for motorcycles

- 9 for bicycles

- 2 places for taxi stand

- 2 places for travelers stop

- 1 place for city buses or incidents

The surface distribution of this action is established with:

Parking and Urbanization 3.201,76 m2.

Exempt buildings.

IISS Building, Circulation Cabinet and Generator: 111.63 m2

Building IISS and GE building: 91.03 m2
