The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, has opened the V Meeting Intercentros of Senior Athletes organized by the Department of the Mayor of the City of Lorca in the Pavilion of the Alameda during today.
Gil pointed out that "this is a great value sporting event that allows the coexistence of older dependents of day centers and residences throughout Lorca, thus offering an open experience to the reality of the elderly in order to raise awareness about the benefits that physical activity brings to your health and self-esteem.At the same time, through this activity tolerance and solidarity is favored from the acceptance of diversity, facilitating coexistence, well-being and personal satisfaction of our elders ".
200 older people participated in the activity, of which 60 took an active part in the different tests.
All of them are users of the different residences and day centers of the municipality such as Caser, Tercia Day Center, San Diego Residence, IMAS Residence, Alzheimer's Association and Parkinson's Association.
The day began with the arrival of the participants and the traditional sponsorship by a Lorca athlete, which in this case has been the prestigious beach volleyball player Fran Tomás.
Then the tests started, interrupted in the middle of tomorrow to have a snack.
After the same have been completed, to proceed with the awards ceremony at 13.30.
As for the tests carried out, they are divided into several blocks, both in the individual and collective modalities.
As for the individual, on the one hand there are the physical tests, which include activities such as bowling, targets and cone-hoops;
in the sensorials we find activities consisting of recognizing objects, smells or tastes;
In terms of cognitive, we find those of attention, soup of letters or calculation.
With regard to the group tests, as for the physical ones, there are two: the "train passes ball and the" water throws. The Mayor wanted to "congratulate all the major participants, their centers, employees such as the Department of Sports, Red Cross, Civil Protection, Local Police and the Department of Social Welfare for continuing to make this great morning of physical activity and motor, coexistence and fun with which 200 major Lorca have shown us again that joy and fun are not exclusive virtues of youth.We are convinced that betting on activities of this nature is an improvement for the condition of our elders , as it happens with the program of sociocultural animation that we develop from the Consistory in its benefit ".
