The PSOE demands to cover the casualties of health personnel in the Rafael Méndez de Lorca hospital (24/04/2018)

The Murcian Health Service takes a month and a half without covering the maternity leave of a specialist Endocrinology doctor, forcing to cancel about 100 appointments per week.

In addition, for months the Rafael Méndez has a single dermatologist of the three that had to serve a population of nearly 200,000 users, which increases the overload of workers and opens the door to the leakage of these to other hospitals

The deputy spokesman of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, Marisol Sanchez Jódar has returned to denounce the important problems of operation of health area III and Rafael Méndez Hospital because of the "very serious" cuts and the policy of job insecurity that continues to impose the Party Popular.

In addition, it has demanded that the "casualties" of health personnel be covered "duly" to guarantee continuity in health care.

The lack of hiring of the necessary health personnel in the Rafael Méndez is reaching the point that the Murcian Health Service takes a month and a half without covering the maternity leave of a specialist Endocrinology doctor, forcing to cancel about 100 appointments a week.

According to Sánchez Jódar, "a month and a half later, there is still no date for the substitute to start working", whose contract, as he has learned, "is blocked by the central services of the Murcian Health Service, for no apparent reason".

Meanwhile, in other health areas "maternity leave has been covered", as can be seen on the website of the Murcian medical union, in the recruitment section through the job board.

In addition, in dermatology, Rafael Méndez has only counted for months with "one of the three dermatologists who had", to serve a population of almost 200,000 users.

These situations do nothing but increase the "overload" of work among health professionals, open the door for the "flight of professionals", and of course, continue to increase waiting times among patients.

The health personnel themselves assure that this "disastrous" labor and substitution policy "only occurs in area III".

This is causing that professionals, in search of greater stability, not only do not prefer to come to Lorca, but those who work at Rafael Méndez "as soon as they have the opportunity, they look for the transfer to work in other hospitals in the Region".

Faced with this "aberration", Sánchez Jódar demands responsibility and asks Gil Jódar to be able to "wake up" since his party, with the policies it applies, not only "is breaking the Law", but "is playing with health of people".

The mayor says that this situation is only solved with the hiring of health personnel necessary to match the templates between areas and end the obvious discrimination that has been the health area III for years.

For this, Sánchez Jódar insists that the Popular Party can not continue to lead the Regional Government because in its more than two decades of government "has been responsible for dismantling public health."

Ana Lajarín: "In 10 months for the specialist to see me, I have time to die"

Ana Lajarín has put voice to the situation that "thousands of Lorca" face every day at the time of obtaining an appointment to consult with the specialist doctor at Rafael Méndez.

In his case, he assures that after "travels and trips to Rafael Méndez with the steering wheel given him by the family doctor" and after several "come back tomorrow" he got an appointment with the pulmonologist for "within 10 months".

"In that time, I have time to die," he laments.
