The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, and the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, today inaugurated the system of tertiary treatment of sewage main town, located in the village of La Hoya, which represents an investment of 3.3 million euros.

The owner of Agriculture and Water said the sewage of Lorca "gives a qualitative change and join the network of municipalities that already have water treatment with tertiary systems," which is "specific" to enable the reuse of wastewater in agriculture.

This level of treatment improves the purification of water with a more rigorous process than the standard laid down in Community legislation.

The Murcia region and with this system removes about one hundred percent of the pollution load in treated water, compared with 75 percent required by the European Union.

According to Cerda, the application of this level of purification treatment in the Region is the main factor that differentiates the General Plan of cleansing and purifying of the Region of Murcia from those of other areas. "

Lorca plant is designed with the latest technology to a production capacity of 20,000 cubic meters per day, which means the recovery of up to seven hectometres of water per year for agriculture, the highest quality.
