The Lorca will perform a free review of the condition of the tires of their vehicles (16/07/2010)

This is an initiative launched from the city council in coordination with the Ministry of Universities, Business and Research with the aim of raising awareness among citizens about the need to check their vehicles to improve road safety

The Councillor for Citizen Security of the City of Lorca, Belén Pérez, reported that on Monday from 9 o'clock in the morning and half will develop in the Fairgrounds Huerto de la Rueda a day of awareness on road safety, which will feature a car tire.

Perez noted that this is an activity carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Universities, Business and Research, through the Directorate General of Industry, Energy and Mines, which proposes that the Public Service Dealers ITV commissioning a campaign of public awareness on road safety, related to the maintenance of their vehicles.

All this following a study by the University of Murcia which is exposed the link between accidents with victims and condition, and therefore the involvement of a poor condition of the tires of vehicles .

In this report, the University of Murcia shows that 60% of injury accidents are caused by mechanical failure due to condition of the tires.

Sources of the event organizers have noted that during the period under study we have analyzed the defects found in the periodic inspection of 878,811 cars found that 22% of all serious defects analyzed for the chapter of tires while this percentage rises to 60% in the case of very serious defects at risk of imminent crash.

In view of the results and apply various scientific methods to estimate the number of casualties avoided through the detection of these defects in the periodic inspection shows that they have prevented about 87 accidents per year driven by having a defect in the tires only in the Autonomous Region of Murcia.

The study was conducted by professors from the engineering machinery and other mechanical and thermal Murcia University in collaboration with the Directorate General of Industry, Energy and Mines of the Autonomous Community of Murcia and several ITV companies Region of Murcia.
