Mesquida visit the last phase of work on the future Parador de Lorca (22/07/2010)

Musealization of archaeological remains, which involves an investment of six million euros, will be another tourist attraction of the Parador.

Secretary of State for Tourism, Joan Mesquida, has visited the works of the future Parador de Lorca (Murcia), which is taking place within the precincts of the castle, and are now nearing completion.

Mesquida is especially interested in the museological project of the archaeological remains found in the "Flag This": a synagogue and Jewish homes and buildings, with a Miqwé, XV century, which may be visited by tourists, in addition to Parador customers.

During the visit the Secretary of State was accompanied by the delegate of the Government of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, Rafael González Tovar, and the local mayor, Francisco Jodar Alonso.

The future Parador de Lorca, whose northern and western wards are nearly completed, was built on an area of 13,625 m2., Within the grounds of the Castle.

All actions carried out on site to house the new Parador have been carried out to preserve overall harmony.

Investment of 28 million euros

The planned investment is 25 million euros, with budgets of Tourism Institute of Spain (Turespaña), to which we must add the 3 million for furniture, furnishings and equipment hotel, which will conduct the Society House Tourism.

The completion of the work of the inn is scheduled for early 2011, the time from which to begin the interior fittings, which could open the Parador in the second half of 2011.

Within the budget has been allocated six million euros to the museological of archaeological remains and environmental development of the Parador.

The opening of the Parador guarantees the preservation and enhancement of the findings, which have had, at all times, under the supervision of the Heritage Service of the Directorate General of Culture of the Community of Murcia.

A first class facilities

The hostel will have a hotel offering high standard, with 76 double rooms, several suites, separate dining rooms, multipurpose convention hall, meeting rooms, spa including indoor and outdoor pools, parking and gardens.

Meeting point of three cultures

During his site visit, the Secretary of State for Tourism said that the main idea of the project is to enhance the historic site of the castle, as a meeting point of three cultures by preserving the remains Christians, Muslims and Jews over significant, which will be integrated into the Parador, as a single package.

Mesquida noted that this construction meets an old aspiration of the community of Murcia, which for the past 15 years had repeatedly requested the construction of a Parador, to complement their tourism offer and join the important cultural and historical heritage and wealth Murcia food and wine.
