The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, and the Director of Public Works of the Autonomous Community, José Ballesta, find a sculpture of King Alfonso X the Wise, who remembers his relationship with the city.
These works are part of the Municipal Plan of historical recovery.
The 1.3 million that has cost the work have been funded by the Regional Government through an agreement signed in 2008.
The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, and the Director of Public Works of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, José Ballesta, will open at 19:00 hours today the squares of Spain and the Caño de Lorca, once they completed the refurbishment in which the Regional Government has invested 1.325 million euros, thanks to an agreement signed between Jódar and Ballesta on November 19, 2008.
Jódar highlighted that "for many years the Lorca expect the necessary remodeling of the old town, and more specifically the heart of the city representing the 4,000 m2 on which she performed at the Plaza of Spain, Cardinal Caño Belluga. The main actions taken on this investment have been the pavement of granite natural stone flooring, under which you installed the storm drain and underground urban services, retention of existing street lamps and the addition of new street furniture, highlighting the double banks of stone.
The Plaza of Spain is one of the hubs of Lorca as in the area there are numerous administrative buildings as City Hall, the Courts, the Chamber of Commerce and the Bar Association, and was declared a historic-artistic by the decree of 5 March 1964.
Francisco Jodar, who will make this evening an overview of the history of these places, stressed that "from the city of Lorca we discussed the creation of the new Plaza of Spain with determination and courage, in the Municipal Plan for recovery of the historic quarter we are running, with works such as the Puente de La Alberca axis-Santo Domingo-Lope Gisbert, Prince Alfonso, or that we will do in the Poplar Street and the rehabilitation of the Collegiate Church of San Patricio, which will come soon your time. Responding to opposition groups
Municipal sources regretted that the opposition groups have decided not to attend the opening ceremony of the renovation of this emblematic place, feeling that "despite the crisis that our country is involved, there are some politicians who refuse to work afternoons during the summer months. "
