1,047 people receive sexual education in high schools affective Lorca through a program of the Department of Women (03/08/2010)

The City Council of Women of the Municipality of Lorca, Antonia Lopez, has reported that "during the 2009-2010 school year 971 adolescents between 14 and 21 years and 76 parents participated in the citywide program of prevention of unwanted pregnancies ".

The City Council of Women of the Municipality of Lorca, Antonia Lopez, explained that during the last school year the municipal area has provided 56 workshops affective-sexual education for young people between 14 and 21, in which participated 494 females and 553 males and 8 schools of family in which it was preventing unwanted pregnancies, with the assistance of 46 mothers and 30 fathers.

Lopez stated that the objectives of this program are to promote equality between men and women regarding healthy sexuality and responsible to contribute to the welfare of people as well as preventing unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases in adolescents, through coeducation program affective-sexual.

In this regard, the council has invited "in future editions there is a greater involvement of mothers and fathers, because education and prevention is the best way to avoid unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases."

Antonia Lopez explained that the workshops and schools have developed in the IES "Prince of Asturias", "Ramón Arcas," J. Ibáñez Martín "," Francisco Giner Ros "," San Juan Bosco "," The Almenara "Puri and" high Pedanías of La Paca, as well as in the Integrated Center for Agricultural Training and Experience, the Center for Adult Education "High Guadalentín", the Municipal Occupational Training Center, College of Special Education "Pillar Soubrier "and for the first time this year the College has incorporated" City of the Sun. This activity is funded by the Office of Women, Social Services, Health, Youth and Employment of the City of Lorca and has the support of the Federation of Associations of Parents of Lorca and the secondary school of Lorca.

Lopez has called on the Central Government to bet on preventive programs such as this, where sexuality is not in isolation but as something that is part of the integrity of the person, getting the media to avoid the increase in abortions that damage physical and psychological health of women.

In this sense, the council has demanded that the Ministry Equality open a line of support to women who become pregnant and the authorities who want to bet on prevention and support for women.
