Development awarded the project of high speed between Lorca and Almeria Almendricos (04/08/2010)

The Government delegate, Rafael González Tovar, today announced that the Ministry of Public Works has approved the award of a contract for the drafting of the construction works high speed in the stretch-Almendricos Lorca (Murcia) for the Corridor High Speed Mediterranean, Murcia-Almeria route.

González Tovar added that this act constitutes a new step forward for the extension of high-speed rail network across the Mediterranean, between Murcia and Almeria, and adds to the presentation last week, the study reported integration railroad in the city of Almeria.

The contract, awarded through Adif, amounted to 1,253,762.3 euros (VAT included) and has a lead time of 15 months.

The section between Lorca and almond trees, which runs through the towns of Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras, both in the Region of Murcia, has a length of 13.8 km.

The contract includes the preparation of the project for the construction of the platform, electrification, signaling installations, security and communications, as well as the adequacy of the season in Puerto Lumbreras.

Moreover, Gonzalez Tovar noted that this award goes to show what remained in recent weeks about the Government's commitment to keep alive the high speed in the Region of Murcia.

Line with Almeria

Also, the government delegate pointed out that the construction of the High Speed Line Corridor Murcia-Almeria Mediterranean, for double track electrified standard gauge, is designed for a maximum speed of 300 km / h and mixed traffic.

The estimated investment for the construction of this line is of 2,519 million euros.

High Speed Line Murcia-Almeria has an approximate length of 183.7 kilometers, of which 107.7 km run through the province of Almeria and the remaining 76 by the Autonomous Community of Murcia.

The planned construction of two intermediate stations in Lorca (Murcia) and Vera-Almanzora (Almería).

González Tovar added that the main benefits of the future construction of this section, for the Mediterranean high-speed corridor, are:

- Encourage Murcia-Almeria relations with the center of the Peninsula and the Valencia region, integrating it into all European rail networks across the Mediterranean corridor.

- Increase participation in global demand for rail transport of passengers and goods.

European funding

The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Operational Programme of Valencia 2007-2013, the Operational Programme 2007-2013 Castilla-La Mancha and Murcia 2007-2013 Operational Programme co-finances various sections of the platform and supply and installation of track and facilities.

Also, the European Investment Bank participates in financing this project.

The contract was awarded to the ETT projects.
