Sports Games host a conference on video games and physical activity in adolescents (02/10/2010)

The well received in the last edition of the Sports Games Guadalentín a theoretical conference this year has caused a new formal discussion related to physical activity is incorporated into the programming of the Olympics Lorca.

Professionals Vicente Carrillo Javier Beltran, Professor, Department of Physical Education and Sport at the University of Seville, and Juan Ignacio Beltran Carrillo, a professor of Physical Education in Secondary Schools of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, presented during the Friday afternoon in the Hall Acts of the House of Sports the conclusions of the research project funded by the IMJUDE titled: "Video assets, technological means sedentary and physical activity: a study of adolescents from the city of Lorca."

As explained by teachers, is a study of a sample of 570 adolescents from 4 of ESO secondary schools Mercedarias Mothers College, Colegio San Francisco de Asis, IES Martín Ibáñez, Prince of Asturias IES, IES Ramón Arcas Meca , IES and IES Giner Ros San Juan Bosco.

In the same temporal patterns were analyzed by adolescents involved two distinct camps: on one hand to physical activity and on the other side to video games and technological means settled.

In this sense, teachers stressed that adolescents Lorca are within the conventional parameters regarding the use of technology, then spent 1 hour and 30 minutes a day watching television, 1 hour and 14 minutes per computer, 30 minute video and 21 minutes to the mobile phone.

However, it is worrying that adding all the technological means young Lorca intended 3 hours and 48 minutes to them, while the time spent by young people is 3 hours and 21 minutes.

According to these results, it is not surprising that teens spend less time on physical activity, because although the children themselves are within the parameters of minimum daily physical activity, girls barely meet the minimum.

As for recommended physical activity, both men and women offer very low rates of completion.

One way to link technological and physical activity would be, according to teachers and Juan Vicente Ignacio Beltran Javier Beltran, active video games, those involving high doses of movement execution.

And although more than 86% of teens Lorca know them, only if properly used.

Thus, the recommendations are clear: teenagers need to enhance physical activity before the relentless advance of technological means of entertainment that promote a sedentary lifestyle and, therefore, less healthy lives.
