Valcárcel Campus opens Lorca, a pioneering infrastructure in which the Community has invested 24 million (04/10/2010)

A total of 130 students entering the course this year on 13 October in the degrees of Nursing and Human Nutrition and Dietetics, which will be joined by the Master of Social Economy

The President of the Autonomous Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, today inaugurated the Campus of Lorca, a pioneering educational infrastructure in Spain for its innovation, higher education, combining academic and vocational training.

Valcárcel, accompanied by the Minister for Universities and Research Company, Salvador Marin, the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, the rector of the University of Murcia, José Antonio Cobacho, and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Felix Faure, toured new facilities, in which the autonomous region has invested 24 million euros.

In this campus a total of 130 students begin classes on October 13 in grades of Nursing and Human Nutrition and Dietetics, which manages the University of Murcia.

In addition, this course will also provide the Master of Social Economy, organized by the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena.

The new campus, set up by the regional government together with the Government of Lorca and public universities in the region, and designed by architect Martin Lejarreta, has three main buildings, located on a parcel of 27,000 square meters, plus an underground parking for 275 vehicles.

Specifically, the first building is intended for general services, administration, management, direction and departments, with over 40 offices and a hall of 250 square meters.

The school building has four floors and is equipped with lounges, five laboratories, eight classrooms for practice and demonstration and three classrooms for theory.

Also, the campus has a building for the library, which are also located a newspaper library, two computer rooms, reading rooms and study a general dependence.

During his speech, the head of the Murcia said: "Today is an important day and we must all feel proud of this campus, which brings together university and vocational training in an area of great expansion and future as the WHO. This infrastructure can be established pathways and recognition of credits from the University Training. "

In addition to the qualifications to be taught starting on 13 October, is expected mid-term grades can be incorporated or Podiatry Occupational Therapy and Master's degree in Audiology and Health Documentation.

Thus, this campus, said Valcárcel, "train future health care professionals Murcia, which may be incorporated with the best preparation and all warranties to the market."

Also, the president stressed the important role of the university campus, which ranks as the fourth Lorca regional municipality in which providing higher education.

"This center will serve to stimulate the productive economy of the region of Guadalentín to generate quality jobs, and revitalize the neighborhood of San Cristobal, and recovering the district military infrastructures for education," he said.

Valcárcel also stressed that the creation of this campus has had the full support of the social and economic as well as provide input into the Campus of International Mare Nostrum.
