The plenary requested the Government of Spain to defend the interests of the tomato and other fruits and vegetables in the agreements with Morocco (29/11/2010)

The Full Council of Lorca unanimously approved to request the National Government to defend the interests of the producer and exporter of fresh tomatoes, prevail at all times the principle of Community preference in any agreement that Europe close with third countries.

This principle is also applicable to other fruits and vegetables included in trade agreements with third countries.

The corporation claims the Government's Office to reconsider the back that keeps the agreement so far, and show support that keeps the agreement so far, and show their rejection of the current pact with Morocco in terms of new concessions fruit and vegetables compared to the current treaty, and which directly harm the industry.

The agreement reached today calls upon the Government of Spain to act on the EU to strengthen and enhance border customs controls to ensure compliance with the agreements at all times, and stepping up controls on plant protection and food security to ensure that agricultural products from outside offer the same guarantees to the consumer than those grown in the EU.

Thus reciprocity is to be required regarding the conditions of production in third countries with regard to plant health, environmental and social, being essential to include this issue in the agreement with Morocco.

Otherwise, reads the text of the motion, could discriminate against Spanish producers in the EU market and the acceptance of social dumping serious social consequences in all areas.

In addition, the House says that should not be allowed to enter fruit and vegetable production process in which active substances are used whose use is banned in the EU.
