UPyD in Lorca urged the municipal government to give a definitive solution to the state of many city streets (17/01/2011)

Over recent weeks we have been witnessing several ads launch of partial settlements Street and future projects with a clear electioneering.

From UPyD is recalled to the government team that most electoral program which contested the elections is still not carried out and that the deterioration of the city has made significant progress in recent years.

Among the proposals appears interim intervention and Selgas Nogalte streets that will lead to a waste to "wash the face" of the forthcoming elections.

Juan Manuel Cabrera, mayoral candidate for UPyD, reminds the Mayor that these streets were completely renovated a few years ago with the aim of making the semi-pedestrian area with the intention of promoting trade, facilitating the transit of pedestrians.

"The main problem that these streets have serious defect is the significant increase in traffic that has been produced by poor traffic management in the city and a significant decrease in the cleaning service" said the candidate.

From UPyD this deterioration has been denouncing for many months.

The municipal government's proposal does not address the underlying problem, in addition to being a waste because it is a simple patch.

UPyD is against resurface the streets and remove the garden areas because that would encourage the passage of cars at the expense of pedestrians.

From UPyD demand for our council to address the problem of permanently maintaining the conception with which this reform was made, and while getting the funding it proposes a significant limitation of the traffic on these streets, a rearrangement of the senses of movement and urgent intervention in the vertical and painted signs.

Also proposed is a complaint, if any, to the company that made these works.

The final reform should include a street to serve the pedestrian promenade with ample and easy access to shops and traffic restrictions for residents only, loading and unloading and access to public parking.

It also should include the elimination of overhead wiring and improving the flower beds and furniture.

"We focus on urban design to serve the people, not the car service" said Mr. Cabrera.
