ANSE calls for the withdrawal of a Partial Plan Calnegre than 7,700 homes (20/01/2011)

ASEAN has sent a report to the Autonomous warning of the effects would Partial Plan on Natura 2000 and the Regional Park Cabo Cope and Calnegre.

The planned urban development in the Mediterranean coast, driven by Hansa Urbana, the same company that promotes the great development of Novo Carthago, south of the Mar Menor, foresees the construction of 7,700 homes and a golf course.

The Southeastern Association of Naturalists has written to the Directorate General of Planning, Evaluation and Environmental Control warning of the effects that development would Sector 1 RT Ramonete (Lorca) on the southern coast of the region, along the Mediterranean, around the town of Calnegre tips.

The Partial Plan would occupy an area of almost 500 ha, and was under the General Plan approved during Lorca mayor of Miguel Navarro (PSOE), who also made claims ANSE.

According to the Association, no doubt that it is obligatory to refer to Environmental Assessment and Impact Assessment of that project, as there are predictable effects on the Natura 2000 network and the Regional Park and Cape Calnegre Cope.

Partial Plan affect the habitats of Community interest (100 ha), species of flora protected by Decree 50/2003, to areas of quality habitat for the tortoise and large tracts of irrigated land (400 ha).

It has also warned of the effects of the influx of a population of 20,000-30,000 people on the beaches and coves of the Regional Park.

The Partial Plan is an excellent example of urban development of so-called "residential tourism," accompanied by golf courses, which due to their excessive proliferation is having adverse effects on the economy and the regional environment.

This is not the only development project under the coastal plain between the Sierra de Las Moreras and Calnegre Regional Park and Cabo Cope.

The City of Lorca urban and urbanizing said almost all the land of the coastal plain, as he did with Marina de Cope.

In this regard, the Association has referred on several occasions written to the current mayor of Lorca, the Popular Jódar Francisco, requesting a change in planning policy, as many agreements and partial plans inherited from the previous municipal corporation limit the municipality's economic activity the construction sector, contributing to a model of environmentally and socially sustainable in the medium and long term.
