The Community completes its work on improving one of the busiest lines of connection between the regions of Upper and Lower Guadalentín (10/02/2011)

The Ministry of Public Works has made a total investment of 4.5 billion euros in the adaptation and improvement of 12 kilometers of this road connecting Lorca and Aledo

The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, together with the mayors of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, and Aledo, Simon Alcaraz, today opened the road connecting the two municipalities (RM-C21), after the improvement works carried out in this way that constitutes one of the busiest lines of communication between the regions of Upper and Lower Guadalentín.

"The adequacy of this road will benefit more than 350,000 drivers a year that from now on will have better access and improving road safety in their daily commute," said the adviser, adding that "this action reflects the commitment of regional government to structure communications between the various districts of the region under the criteria of equality and progress. In particular, the works that respond to today inaugurated the second phase of comprehensive improvement of this road and involved a total of four miles, in the stretch from Km 8.4 to the intersection with the road that goes Lorca Zarzadilla the hamlet of Totana (RM-C9).

In the first phase of the project, completed in 2009, in addition to the expansion and unification of the platform along a total of eight miles, took out the construction of a bridge over the ravine of Lebor and a roundabout at the intersection of the road with the way RM-502 (Totana to Aledo) and RM-503 (Bullas at Aledo).

Increased visibility

This second phase of the action that has received an investment of 1,479,685 euros, has been the expansion of the road, from 6.5 to 10.5 meters wide with 1.5 meter shoulders.

We have also carried out the rectification of tight bends, the improvement of the path to increasing visibility and building a new drainage system, and works by step natural streams and channels to strengthen security in case of rain.

It has also installed new signage and markings, and containment systems in different sections of the road and have been conditioning the access roads to farms in their area.

At the intersection of two roads, provision has been waiting a center lane 160 meters long for braking and acceleration of 140 meters, which allows left turns more safely.

Has also been given to the intersection of the respective islands for better traffic management.

IDEAS TO HIGHLIGHT:

The reform of this road will help to structure the Shire, it will allow a greater number of residents moving to Aledo Lorca to make purchases, increasing the potential of our commercial offer.
