Start stop stallions in Equine Artificial Insemination Center of Lorca (07/04/2011)

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, today visited stop stallions takes place in Equine Artificial Insemination Center, located in the facilities of the Integrated Agricultural Training and Experience (CIFE), Lorca.

Stop horse feeds usually assigned by the Ministry of Defense tank belonging to the Stallions of Ecija, but this year also participate stallion farms in the region for the extraction of semen under the agreement signed between the Ministry and the Association Horse Breeders Region.

The charges for the stay of these animals are handled by their owners, while the Center provides technical support and personnel for the handling and extraction of semen and subsequent shipment.

This center develops training and research.

It is also approved by the European Community for the handling, collection, freezing and shipping of genetic material from the equine species worldwide.

Last year at this facility were inseminated a total of 165 mares, of which 140 were in the region and the rest from other regions.

In 2011 provides for the insemination of about 250 mares.

If the owner's request, also made a diagnosis of pregnancy.

The fertility rate obtained in the last two years exceeded 80 percent.

The regional equine industry has a total of 1,759 farms, 11 racetracks and some 11,000 cattle, of which approximately 50 percent are purebreds.

The most dynamic regions are those of the High Guadalentín, Cartagena-Mar Menor and Murcia.

The upward trend in the region in this sector over the last decade is due, among other things, the use of animals in sports, hippotherapy and rural tourism and high standing.
