The Community intensifies social care and housing relocation on the victims of the earthquakes of Lorca (01/06/2011)

Technicians analyze the status of the homes of families living in the camp of the tower so they can return as soon as possible if they meet the minimum conditions of habitability

The Ministry of Justice and Public Safety today activated the Sector Plan Evacuation, Shelter and Food Supply in the Region of Murcia, to establish all the means, resources and care and protection to victims in the social aspects arising from the earthquakes on 11 May in Lorca.

The Community thus enhances social care to those affected by the seismic event and gives priority to actions that allow the relocation of those people who can not return to their homes by the severity of the damage detected in its structure.

Shelter plan moves in the severity level set in the Civil Protection Special Plan to the seismic risk in the Region of Murcia (Sismimur Plan), launched as a result of earthquakes.

The Minister of Justice and Public Safety office, Manuel Campos, and the owner of Social Policy, Women and Immigration office, Joaquín Bascuñana, today held a working meeting with representatives of the Municipality of Lorca and various social organizations to define the line action, collaboration and support to the affected population.

Thus, the local and regional government and other institutions presented their tools to coordinate all media and social services made available, in order to provide accommodation solutions for Lorca affected.

The advice and assistance to the victims in the preparation of all procedures for requesting assistance available for rental or rehabilitation of housing, the supply and distribution of beverages, food and clothing, the coordination of psychological care to victims and families and the elderly, sick or mental or physical disability, and the provision of emergency health assistance are some of the priority actions.

To this end the Ministry of Social Policy, Women and Immigration lead and coordinate the working group responsible for organizing all resources for evacuation, shelter and supplies in the Region, and the actions that are undertaken in the affected areas.

In this regard, the Minister Bascuñana highlighted the coordination that is taking in all the work and noted that "the regional government will continue to do all actions and work that is accurate."

The working group involving staff Murciano Institute for Social Action (IMAS), other ministries and autonomous agencies of the Community Social Services City of Lorca, Red Cross, psychologists, specialists, technicians and municipal volunteer organizers Protection Civil.

Councilor Manuel Campos stressed that the regional government "is involved in a direct way to offer a comprehensive solution to the citizens affected by the relocation and drive, thus the birth of a renewed and stronger."

Campos explained that "now is analyzing the condition of housing in each of the families living in the camp of La Torrecilla, so they can return as soon as possible to their homes if it satisfies the conditions of habitability."

"The camp of La Torrecilla be maintained for as long as is necessary until such time as the relocation of people who could not be relocated," said Campos, who said his department will focus on the general direction of the Plan, the coordination with other ministries involved in the device, and ensuring security in the camp.
