The measures comply with the commitment of the Minister of Industry, Tourism and Trade Miguel Sebastian, who last visited the affected area in June, to help alleviate the negative effects of the earthquake on tourism and local trade

The Government Delegate to the Region of Murcia, Rafael González Tovar, informed the Council of Ministers today approved the investment of 4.45 billion euros in the repair of the Parador de Lorca, damaged during the earthquake in town last May, in line with the Government's commitment to revive activity in the area sent personally by the Minister of Industry, Tourism and Trade Miguel Sebastian, when he traveled to Lorca last July.

Tovar Gonzalez recalled that during his visit, Minister of Industry to check the status of the Roadhouse and met with representatives of industry and commerce of the town at the Chamber of Commerce of Lorca to hear their demands.

Thus, in accordance with Article 97 of Law 30/2007 on public sector contracts, the Council of Ministers approved two agreements for the hiring of the architect and the company doing the repairs on the building and the outdoor Parador that was about to enter service when the earthquake struck.

The budget for investment in the Parador emergency works will cover the costs of rehabilitation and reform urgent action outside the Parador, with bolstering the Hermitage of San Clemente and the archaeological remains and the building envelope.

These works are included within the emergency action plan approved on June 30 to repair the damage at the Parador in the earthquake.

The estimated implementation period is ten months with the goal of opening the Parador de Lorca in Easter 2012.

The recruitment will be conducted by Turespaña and the Secretariat General of Domestic Trade and Tourism.

Being two different contracting authorities, establishing two agreements:

1.

On the one hand, the agreement for hiring the architect, who made the General Secretariat of Turespaña, amounting to 283,634.04 euros.

2.

Furthermore, the agreement for the hiring company by the General Secretariat of Tourism and Domestic Trade, amounting to 4,170,235.35 euros.
