Three lamps rituals from the Synagogue of Lorca, players in the exhibition "Bibles of Sepharad" (28/02/2012)

The Councillor for Culture of the City of Lorca, Sandra Martinez, has been reported that three lamps rituals glass from the medieval synagogue discovered in the castle grounds of our city participating in the exhibition "Sephardic Bibles."

This is a show that takes place in Madrid, which was opened yesterday afternoon in the Hypostyle hall of the National Library, with the presence, among other politicians, the Minister of Culture, Government of Spain Jose Ignacio Wert.

The Minister inquired about the current state of Lorca heritage, highlighting his knowledge of emergency actions taken to date arising from damage caused by earthquakes.

He also showed interest in learning directly Lorca Synagogue, the Jewish quarter and hostel being built in the castle grounds.

The City Council through the Councillor of Culture, the Minister is invited to attend the inauguration of the hostel, as well as to visit the Synagogue and the rich cultural heritage of our town.

The Councillor for Culture explained that "the recovery of the Synagogue of Lorca is fundamental for the promotion of our cultural heritage. This is an added value for our city, which, except Toledo, has no other Spanish city . We're talking about a synagogue in which there have been no subsequent rites of other religions, so that means for the Jewish world. We are positioning as a reference point for the diaspora, a work that will benefit all Lorca ".

Sandra Martinez noted that the Municipal Archaeological Museum of Lorca temporarily loaned three late medieval glass lamps, specifically the fifteenth century, from the synagogue.

These are part of the temporary exhibition "Bibles of Sepharad: The lives cross the text and its readers."

These pieces serve to illustrate aspects of worship and forms of lighting in the Middle Ages, particularly in the synagogue of the Jewish castellated Lorca.

It is noteworthy that the temporary exhibition is organized by the National Library of Spain, in collaboration with the Center for Humanities and Social Sciences CSIC borrowed parts are:

Wide mouth, small circular foot and body calyx.

It has two handles.

Dating from the fifteenth century.

It has 3 handles.

It has 5 handles and carved decoration on the neck.

The exhibition will remain open until May 13, 2012, is coordinated by Javier del Barco, and explores the history of the Hebrew Bible in Spain, the central axis on which revolves in medieval Judaism, cultural life and religious Jews from the Iberian Peninsula.

The exhibition, organized by the Center for Humanities and Social Sciences (CCHS) of the National Research Council and the NBS, the visitor about the ways in which the Hebrew Bible was read, interpreted and represented in the Middle Ages.

The essence of the exhibition is in the manuscripts that were produced in the Iberian Peninsula, which were read by Jews and conversos in medieval Spain, and later collected by different owners and Spanish institutions.
