The City of Lorca and the Bar Association organized a panel discussion to commemorate the bicentennial of the Spanish Constitution of 1812 'La Pepa' (16/03/2012)

The Councillor for Culture, Sandra Martinez, explained that the event involved the mayor, Senator Jose Joaquin Peñarrubia, Judge Dean of Lorca, the professor of Constitutional Law at the UMU Luis Alberto Galvez.

The Councillor for Culture of the City of Lorca, Sandra Martinez, this morning the panel that the Consistory and Bar Lorca organized to commemorate the bicentennial of the Spanish Constitution of 1812 'La Pepa'.

The mayor has indicated that the event will be held in the auditorium of the Bar Lorca, Selgas Street, on Tuesday 20 March at 19:00.

Martinez explained that the event involved the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, Senator Jose Joaquin Peñarrubia Agius, Judge Dean of Lorca, Jose Luis Garcia Fernandez, and Professor of Constitutional Law at the UMU Luis Alberto Gálvez, with the moderated by Dean of the Official Association of Attorneys Francisco Javier Campoy Serrahima Lorca.

The Spanish Constitution of 1812, popularly known as La Pepa, was enacted by the Parliament of Spain on March 19, 1812 in Cadiz.

The historical importance of it is because it is the first Constitution promulgated in Spain, besides being one of the most liberal of his time.

Regarding the origin of his nickname, La Pepa, is that was enacted on the day of San Jose.
