The Mayor Aldermen and Health Policy of the City of Lorca, Maria del Carmen Ruiz and Antonia Lopez, participated this morning in a day of awareness on the prevention of skin cancer and heat stroke, which has developed in the Garden Wheel to celebrate the traditional weekly market.

This activity has been completed along with the Association lorquina cancer and has referred made the sharing of information leaflets on the "Prevention of skin cancer."

This has been engaged in a series of information leaflets with the slogan "Take care of your health. Protect from heat," which have been provided by the Ministry of Health.

These establish a comprehensive and effective set of basic recommendations among which include the following:

Drink plenty of water, take a light meal and avoid going out at times of extreme heat.

Do not drink alcohol.

Stay in the coolest places in the house.

Give water to children frequently.

Use some type of cooling (fans, air conditioning) rationally.

Avoid going out in extreme heat of the day, from noon to sunset.

Walk in the shade, comfortable clothing and use light colors and carries a water bottle.

Do not stand or let anyone in the car with the windows closed.

Avoid sports and physical activity decreases in the heat of the day, if you have to take precautions.

This initiative has aimed to raise awareness of the harmful effects Lorca with the heat and sun when temperatures recorded extreme values ​​with the arrival of summer.

The elderly, along with children and outdoor workers are the group most sensitive to suffer the dreaded heat stroke and sunburn to suffer the skin.

Remember that the heat does not affect all people equally, as there are groups more sensitive to the effects of high temperatures.

In this context we find people over 65 and children under 4, which must be added to people with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, Alzheimer's, respiratory diseases or mental workers and people exposed to the sun, and people treated with drugs such as diuretics, beta blockers and antidepressants, and obese people.

Exposure to excessive temperatures may cause health problems such as cramps, dehydration, sunstroke, heat stroke and sunburn.

Municipal sources have stressed that human exposure to high ambient temperatures may cause an alteration of our vital functions in the event that our body is unable to compensate for variations in temperature.

From City Hall, as measures to prevent heat stroke, especially in the elderly and children, is indicated to avoid direct sunlight in the hottest hours of the day, to help our seniors living alone, avoiding sunburn by applying sunscreen bottles solar, avoid physical activity in the middle of the day, drink water frequently, cover their heads with hats or caps, avoid hot foods and slow digestion, wearing sunglasses, not alcohol, increased consumption of fruits and vegetables and wear clothing and light footwear.
