Francisco Jodar has congratulated this group for winning the top award of International Folklore Festival Buyukcekmece, Istanbul (Turkey).
The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, has received this morning the group Folk Songs and Dances of Lorca to congratulate components for winning the first prize in the International Folklore Festival Buyukcekmece, held in Istanbul (Turkey) from 30 June to 8 July.
Jodar has expressed gratitude that "with their good work of Lorca named worldwide, and have succeeded in Spain, and particularly Lorca, this year also become the World Champion of Folklore", after winning at 20 traditional groups from different countries such as Mexico, Indonesia, Hungary, Dubai, Greece, Macedonia, Poland and Brazil.
Note that this festival is considered last year as the best in the world by the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals (CIOFF), an agency of UNESCO.
The president of this group, Inmaculada Martinez de Miguel, announced during the reception that the funding for which is linked to the prize, $ 1,000, donated to the Franciscan Fathers of the Convent of the Virgin Patron of the Gardens to assist in the restoration for damages suffered by earthquakes last year.
Miguel Martinez thanked the cooperation of the City of Lorca especially this year as hard for the city and for the group, which lost its usual venue by earthquakes.
