Valcárcel, Bascuñana Jódar and inaugurate the new facilities lorquina APANDIS in the hamlet of La Hoya (26/07/2012)

The new facility has a capacity to accommodate present and future needs of the region of Lorca in assisting mentally handicapped, with an Early Childhood Center, Center Day Care Center and School.

The President of the Autonomous Region, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, the Government Delegate in Murcia, Joaquin Bascuñana, and the president of the association APANDIS, Pedro Arcas, inaugurated the new headquarters of this group located next St. Julian of urbanization in the hamlet of La Hoya lorquina

Valcárcel stressed that "the new facility has a capacity to accommodate present and future needs of the region of Lorca in assisting mentally handicapped."

For his part, Mayor congratulated the Association of Parents of Children with mental disabilities in the region of Lorca (Apandis), nonprofit entity belonging to the Federation of Organizations for Persons with Disabilities and Cerebral Palsy ( Feaps-Murcia), for the speed with which they made the move because it was accelerated by damage in the former premises of the Vineyard for the May 11 earthquake.

The new facility, whose construction began in 2008, with an area of ​​2,138 m2 distributed to a day center with 122 beds, a Center for Early Care and Child Development with 50 seats available, and a School Support Centre, also with 50 seats.

In total, the work Apandis Multipurpose Center in La Hoya has meant an investment of 3,100,000 euros, of which the Autonomous Community has provided 810,000 (300,000 in 2008 and another 300,000 in 2009).

During the opening ceremony, President Valcarcel also highlighted the "high capacity" Multipurpose Center "to accommodate the present and future needs of the region of Lorca in regard to assistance to the mentally handicapped."

As for facilities, Day Centre is for over 16 years who have completed their compulsory schooling and do not have a job.

Its purpose is to improve the quality of life of users through a comprehensive care that includes job training programs and personal and social development.

Able to accommodate 122 users-before could only accommodate 50 -, 75 people have contracted in 2012 with the Department of Health and Social Policy through the Murcian Institute for Social Action (IMAS) for a total of 839,520 euros.

Its buildings house classrooms and workshop areas, a room for the development of personal adjustment programs, dining room, industrial kitchen, and additional rooms for community use, administration and general services, room and rehabilitation professionals, educational activities and occupational therapy .

Meanwhile, the Center for Child Development and Early Intervention (CDIAT) serves children age out of school early, between 0 and 6, who presented some alteration in their development or at risk of suffering, whether for reasons of biological or socio-environmental.

It has 50 seats, of which 5 contracted with the Department of Health and Social Policy through the IMAS for a total of 14,642 euros.

In its dependencies provide stimulation services, Speech Therapy, Physiotherapy and psychomotor.

Finally, the School Service Center (CAE), also with a capacity of 50 beds, provides services outside school hours in the afternoon the students enrolled in schools.

Currently serves 15 children under the Agreement signed between the Ministry of Education, Training and Employment Feaps amounting to 500,000 euros for 2012.

Employment Workshop

Between December 2010 and December 2011, the Multipurpose Center in La Hoya Apandis developed an Employment Workshop gardening and landscape restoration for 10 students, funded with 216,015 euros by the Ministry of Education, Training and Employment, in which Participants performed during its twelve-month minor works and landscaping development of the parcel which houses the complex care.

Apandis consists of more than one hundred families and maintains 55 jobs, half of them occupied by people with intellectual disabilities who work in the Special Employment Centre of the association in the Industrial Saprelorca.

Therefore, among the authorities present at the opening were also directors of Social Policy and Employment, Maria Angeles Palacios, and Constantine Sotoca.
