The restoration work of the Churches of Lorca, affected by earthquakes, continues apace (06/09/2012)

In yesterday afternoon, Sept. 5, various media Lorca, accompanied by faculty managers and construction companies, they could see the state you are the restoration of several churches in the city, affected by earthquakes in May 2011.

This was mainly technical visit, since none of the work has been completed, but it has been shown the progress of the work, and the means, technical and material taught in each of the interventions.

The visit began at the Church of Santiago, where they begin to see the first interventions, particularly with regard to the strengthening and consolidation of the vaults and pillars of the aisles, as well as efforts to reduce the weight of the covers and improve the response of the same against further earthquakes.

This work is funded by the Diocese of Cartagena, the Episcopal Conference and the rest of the Spanish dioceses, is more complicated from a technical standpoint, since its partial collapse, makes it necessary to rebuild several of the arches, the transept and the drum and dome complete.

The technicians explained below, the advance in the works outside the San Patricio Excolegiata, highlighting especially those tasks executed, as a result of earthquakes, such as the removal, restoration and relocation of all pinnacles in danger of falling.

To date, more than half of the covers of the nave, its high walls and buttresses are completed in a second phase of activities funded primarily by Caja Murcia.

Finally, we visited the Church of San Mateo, whose works are being funded by the Ministry of Development, the most advanced of the three, as they are finalized work on walls, stone elements recovery, sewn cracks, structural stabilization, main facade, floor, stands, etc, ... and even was proceeding to test the lighting inside the temple.

The directors of the works, such as construction companies, were pleased with the progress of the work and thanked the Bishop of Cartagena, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Development, Department of Fine Arts of the Region of Murcia, City Lorca and all entities and individuals who have contributed funding for the trust and support in the preparation of projects and the works themselves.

With regard to the budget of these Churches, the cost of the temple of Santiago reaches 2.6 million euros, of which 600,000 euros have been spent.

Phase 1 and 2 of San Patricio is valued at 1.53 million euros, of which 870,000 euros have been invested.

Also, the parish of San Mateo requires the amount of 1,600,000 euros, of which 1.2 million euros have been spent.
