One hundred volunteers participate in Lorca in the First Annual in Spain EVS (04/10/2012)

The municipality of Lorca hosts this weekend's celebration in Spain First Annual European Voluntary Service (EVS) to meet a total of 95 young Spanish volunteers who have made volunteering in different EU countries to participate both in training like other events organized to mark the event, including exhibitions, workshops, concerts and street art forms, which will also be directed to the general public.

This is the first time in Spain is organized this type of meeting that is held under the Youth in Action program, funded by the Directorate General for Education and Culture of the EU, the Spanish National Agency, and with the collaboration of City of Lorca.

The director general of Gender Violence Prevention, Youth, and Legal Protection of Children Reform, Veronica Lopez, and Councilman Youth council of Lorca, Augustine Flames, today presented the activities of the event, beginning on Friday afternoon, and which comprise two parts.

The first is training and is aimed at volunteers who have developed EVS projects in other countries, to share, rate and contrasting views on their experiences.

Also involved a dozen entities that receive volunteers during the time that the service performed (associations, public bodies, etc..).

The second part of the activity is focused on the visibility of the European Voluntary Service is developed in parallel to the previous one, and it has scheduled various activities (exhibitions, concerts, workshops, street art forms, etc.) Directed both volunteers and former volunteers and the general public to raise awareness of the EVS as a means of promoting solidarity and active citizenship and mutual understanding between young people in the European Union.

Lopez said a decision to hold the event in Lorca "a city that has suffered the circumstances that deserve the support of all institutions and the best promotions."

He noted that "the joy and energy of the volunteers will be a sign of the help they can offer in real and symbolic reconstruction of the city."

Objectives

EVS is an action that seeks to develop solidarity and promote active citizenship and mutual understanding between the EU youth.

This service enables young people to make a voluntary 12 months in a country other than their own EU thematic areas such as culture, sport, disability, environment, development cooperation, gender equality, etc..

This event seeks volunteers who have developed projects to cooperation assess the contribution of each volunteer personnel to service achievements both personal and professional and social, and also assess the knowledge about Europe, changes in attitude towards Europe and the understanding of cultural diversity.

This meeting also aims to promote the European Voluntary Service, knowing the impact it has on the citizens, establish a bond for former volunteers to explore and develop new projects and other ways to apply their experiences and show showcase projects developed EVS.

Program

Veronica Lopez will participate on Friday, day 5, acts of welcoming participants and inauguration of the training activities of EVS (17:30 pm on Friday, the 5th, in the Auditorium of the University of Lorca, Forces Avenue Armed).

On Saturday, the 6th, the morning activities begin at 12:15 hours and consist of the opening of the photographic exhibition on the street 'EVS' (Loch Street), the presentation of the exhibition of artistic intervention in public spaces by the students of the first year of the School of Design of the Region of Murcia (in the Cultural Hall of Cajamurcia, Loch Street), and urban art exhibit, with the completion of graffiti by local and national artists and enlivened with music crazy 'Dj Chito' and a group of local breakdance (Colmenarico street).

From 1300, in the Plaza de Calderón will open the Local Volunteer Fair and the Living Library where former volunteers participating in the event will act as books available to be read and people may wish to talk to who have done volunteer work in other countries.

Also in the Plaza Calderon, at 13:30 will open a workshop and a garden tent supportive of entertainment for children, based on a project of students from the School of Design of the Region of Murcia.

In the afternoon, at 17:00 and the Loch Street, proceed to the recording of a music video that will collect the spirit and meaning of 'volunteer' and is called 'Lipdub'.

At 18:00 there will be a workshop of European resources in the Plaza Calderon in which stakeholders can learn about the opportunities offered by Europe for training, employment, scholarships, travel, etc..

And at 18:30, is scheduled to open sculpture 'Bookcrossing', by Beatriz Romera and will serve as a meeting point for all who wish to exchange books.

There will be a children's storytelling and animation workshops (in Pillar Square Barnes, opposite the Municipal Library).

The day will end with the celebration dinner at the Garden Ruano and a concert of 'Jardares out and The Soslayos' at Plaza Calderon, from 22:00.
