Lorca host the university's celebration Tuesday MKH12 'World Food Day' (11/10/2012)

The Campus Mare Nostrum (comprising universities of Murcia and Cartagena) choose the Parador del Castillo de Lorca to host this event that will talk about the Mediterranean diet, nutrition challenges, R & D and internationalization of food industry.

The Councillor of Health of the City of Lorca, Antonia Lopez, and overall campus coordinator Mare Nostrum, Pascual Pérez-Paredes, presented this morning the conference to mark the university that 'World Food Day' jointly organized by the Universities Murcia and Cartagena Polytechnic at Parador del Castillo de Lorca.

Antonia Lopez reported that this event Mediterranean Know How Project 2012 (MNH12), funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of Spain, will be held on Tuesday 16 October, coinciding with the World Food day that FAO (Organization United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization) held under the slogan 'agricultural cooperatives feed the world'.

The papers of this meeting will be held open in the morning and afternoon, from 10:00 to 13:45 and 16:30 to 19:00 hours, and are open to all citizens who wish to attend but are scheduled mainly thinking students in both universities and industry professionals.

Admission to the conference is free of charge without prior registration.

The conference will be opened by the Rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Jose Antonio Franco, the Vice President for Research and Internationalisation of the UMU, Gaspar Ros, and the first deputy mayor, Francisco Montiel.

Then, there will be the presentation of the Campus Mare Nostrum and its strategic axes: "The focus of the 'Agri-based Bioeconomy", from the hand of Pascual Pérez-Paredes, Josefina Nieves Garcia and Valverde.

At 11:00 Emilio Martinez de la Victoria (University of Granada and the Mediterranean Diet Foundation) and Mariano Manas (University of Granada, Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology "José Mataix Verdú" and Food Network Show Spain) will speak about the importance of the Mediterranean Diet.

Then, about 12:15 pm, there is provided a Roundtable on the main challenges of nutrition and food, with the participation Marta Garaulet (Professor of Physiology at the University of Murcia) and Maria Jesus Periago (Professor of Food Technology, Nutrition and Food Science, University of Murcia).

In the afternoon, from 16:30 pm, the Quality Manager, Research and Development SA Hero Spain, Pedro Abellán, and the Director of PROEXPORT (Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruits and Vegetables in the Region of Murcia ), Fernando Gomez, explain business experiences of food industry in the Region of Murcia-based R & D and internationalization.
