Jódar collects the award of the world's largest tourism by adapting holiday of Lorca after the earthquakes (05/11/2012)

The London Tourism Fair Lorca delivery today one of the Global Awards of the World Travel Market for succeeding visitors recover lost after the earthquakes, Holy Week and the launch of the campaign "Open for restoration 'and visits to the synagogue.

The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar today reflects the Tourism Fair in London one of the Global Awards prizes awarded annually by the World Travel Market, which this year went to the town of Lorca for knowing how to adapt their tourism the difficult circumstances created by the tragic earthquakes that struck on 11 May 2011.

As stressed by promoters of this award and the 33rd edition of the fair, the city of Lorca has launched many initiatives through which it has managed to recover, and even exceed, the number of visitors who came to the city before the earthquake, after suffering a decline of up to 70% in the months following the earthquakes.

To obtain these results the Consistory launched the initiative "Lorca, open for restoration", which includes a route that is guided by the many monuments that were damaged and are in the process of recovery, such as Palacio de Guevara , the churches of San Francisco, Santo Domingo, San Mateo, Santiago and San Patricio collegiate, and the porch of San Antonio and Museums Steps, among others.

In addition, the tower has been rehabilitated and the castle walls, which have boosted leisure and cultural activities, as well as improving access to the strength and the Parador hotel, put into operation this year and which has recovered an important Jewish synagogue in the Jewish Quarter of the archaeological park of the Castle.

Similarly, the award recognizes the effort to get the Holy Week, declared of International Tourist Interest and provided aid to repair shops and restaurateurs, who along with other initiatives have allowed the reopening of the vast majority of these.

The award will be presented by Joaquin Molina, editor Hosteltur media proposed granting this award to Lorca, a town that is known as "Sun City".

Francisco Jódar this recognition thanked and congratulated all tourism professionals Lorca "because without their efforts had not achieved" and invited the English and citizens around the world to visit Lorca and contribute to the recovery of the economy of its citizens, a few weeks ago also suffered flooding.
