Cross reaffirms the Government's commitment to heritage lorquino (12/11/2012)

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, this morning visited the church of San Cristóbal with the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar to discuss the condition with the temple after the roof yesterday shed one of its chapels, corresponding to San Antonio.

Cruz, who was accompanied by the Commissioner of the Government of Spain for the recovery of Lorca after the earthquakes, Inmaculada García, and the manager of the foundation 'Light of Images', Carmen Quintero said after checking the extent of the damage "from the outset" technicians of the Ministry moved to check the status of the structure and "ensure that there was no danger of other parts of the building collapsed" as a result of the damage that caused the earthquakes in 2011.

This, Cruz said, "is again an extreme situation to already damaged lorquino heritage".

The Minister of Culture said that the regional government has for 2013 of 9,384,905 euros for recovery of churches, palaces and other monuments Lorca.

In this regard, he noted that "we expect the equity lorquino again regain its glory as it is cultural and economic sign of the city."

The works of the church have started this morning with the aim that the temple is restored for Easter 2013.

The start of these works, necessary for the damage that caused the earthquake last year, are funded by the Foundation 'Light of Images' of the Generalitat Valenciana.
