A guide published by two experts in energy efficiency in architecture offer energy saving proposals for rebuilding homes in Lorca (27/12/2012)

Councilwoman Management and Earthquake Recovery, Satur Martínez, presented a guide that contains a number of strategies and proposals to improve the energy efficiency of homes in Lorca having to be rebuilt.

The work is titled "Guide to the implementation of the limitation of the energy demand in homes (CTE-DB HE1) with top passive Lorca" and was conducted by the Professor of the School of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Madrid Margaret of Luxán Diego Garcia, and the architect Gloria Muñoz Gómez.

The mayor stressed that "this guide is to facilitate the implementation of the requirements for the limitation of the energy demand of buildings in Lorca, improving, from the consideration of passive strategies, energy efficiency of homes. The goal is to become a useful guide as to the adequacy of energy for rebuilding homes in Lorca, Lorca getting to save energy in their homes getting increased comfort and being an effective document compliance with the requirements that the Technical Building Code set to Lorca. recommends appropriate strategies for this in terms of energy efficiency adapted to the climatic of Lorca, based on passive solar architecture. "

Martinez said that "the peculiarity of this document is that it includes both information relevant to compliance with the technical codes by architects as a series of general recommendations to achieve energy efficient buildings and can be of great benefit to the citizens."

The guide can be downloaded from the website of the City: www.lorca.es

SUMMARY OF RECOMMENDATIONS

To summarize, sets out specific recommendations for Lorca, which are developed in each of the sections.

About the sunlight

One issue that must always be taken into account, is the orientation of facades and holes, based on the irradiance received at each orientation, in winter and summer.

It also should be noted that the width of the streets, when are narrow (less than 2 times the height of the buildings facing), makes plants receiving no radiation low in winter, regardless of orientation.

The uptake of solar radiation during the warmer months of the facades: in walls and through the gaps, produce undesirable overheating housing mainly during the summer months, and sometimes in spring and autumn.

On the front openings

It must be said that glass facade percentages above 30%, undertake the appropriate use of thermal mass, necessary and advisable in passive solar architecture

For the climate of Lorca, and in view of climate trends, if chosen low-emissivity glass, reflective layer must be on the outer glass, on the inside facing the camera.

In Lorca avoid horizontal glazed skylights that can not be protected from solar radiation, accounting losses in winter and in summer undesirable contributions (up to more than 8,000 Wh/m2.día in the month of June, as seen in the corresponding graph).

Thermal insulation in the glass depends on the size of the chamber and of the existence of the addition or treatment of the sheet of low emissivity, being virtually independent of the thickness of the glass, with no difference between the 6, 5 and 4 mm.

The sound insulation in the glass depends on the mass and improves if a double glass system they are of different thickness.

Using different thicknesses of glass and composite in one of the layers, improvement between 10% and 20% noise isolation.

As the climate of Lorca, excess heat, the facades are the worst orientation with this and especially the west in summer, it is recommended to choose the woodwork that meets the requirements of the North and put it into east and west facades , not forgetting appropriate external shading devices in all orientations (covering the hole more vertical rays and horizontal south east and west respectively and prevent the greenhouse effect).

About Sunscreen holes

For the climate of Lorca, currently sunscreens are necessary throughout the day in the months of June, July, August and September.

Sunscreens are needed during the central hours of the day of May and October.

Protections are needed during the noon of April.

Climate trends may require extended periods of protection.

Therefore, the recommendations are:

Having no fixed sun protection, prevent sunlight from November to March.

It may have fixed sun protection, to protect from April to September.

Having mobile elements operable for other occasions.

Since it is more effective solar protection that improve hollow glass and woodwork, is recommended only when the latter once designed sun protection, it still proves insufficient to ensure thermal comfort.

Onsite specifies that there are no CTE sunscreens suitable for holes with certain orientation, and some are quite ineffective.

For example, a cantilever protection in western façade is ineffective, since when the sun is most annoying, is almost horizontal and the overhang would not shade the hole.

On the covers

On the decks, especially in the summer months, flows are not ascending priority (that is, as already mentioned, models colder climates where the upward flow refers to the energy loss of heat by the pool), but down (avoid heat gains from solar radiation on the cover, especially in the summer).

RECOMMENDED PLACE INSULATION ABROAD AS POSSIBLE.

On the thermal insulation of the surround

As the DB HE1 regulations that generally caters to the growing demands of cold weather and less sunlight, are cousin who has no building to minimize heat loss in heating energy consumption of non-renewable (favors the use of isolation heat inside) but in the case of Lorca is more effective to make the most of the opportunity to accumulate solar energy in materials with significant thermal inertia are bound (by placing the insulation on the faces of the outermost Siding: walls, roofs and floors) to achieve comfort conditions inside the building resulting from the use of the thermal inertia of materials, solar radiation and daily variations of temperature in both summer and winter, minimizing the consumption other renewable energies.

PROPOSED IN ISOLATION positions EXTERNAL WALLS, as well as the advantages described eliminates cold bridges and improves passive solar performance.
