300,000 euros for the first phase of construction in the chapels of white and blue step in Lorca (28/12/2012)

The regional government has approved a grant for a total of 300,000 euros to carry out the first phase of the works in the chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary, home of White Pass, in the monumental Santo Domingo, and in the Church of San Francisco, home of the Blue Step, both damaged by earthquakes in Lorca.

Specifically, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism allocated 150,000 euros to the Chapter of Our Lady of Sorrows, White Pass, and another similar amount Paso Blue Foundation.

The Chapel of the Rosary, the eighteenth century, formed together with the church of Santo Domingo, the sixteenth century, the monumental Santo Domingo de Lorca.

Both constructions belong to the late Dominican Convent, located in the historic center of the city, and which now constitute the seat of White Pass.

The earthquake affected the entire monumental, but especially to the Chapel of the Rosary, whose structure was seriously damaged.

At first it is carried out emergency works to stabilize the building.

Subsequently drafted the blueprint and implementation of restoration of the Chapel of the Rosary, which is a comprehensive intervention divided into two phases in order to give priority to those jobs and urgency with regard to availability of the nave of the chapel and access it safely.

Thus, in this first phase basically act in the central nave and the facade, for consolidation and so it can be used safely in the traditional events of the Brotherhood.

The actions consist in the restoration and consolidation of the facade, the walls and stone doorway of the temple, and repair electrical wiring and lighting.

The whole of the church and convent of San Francisco, also located in the city center of the Sun, was declared a historic-artistic in 1964 and in 1985 went to be regarded as a Cultural with a Historic category.

The church of San Francisco was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1982, and three years later received the name of a Cultural Monument by category.

This church is the headquarters of the Brotherhood of Farmers (Step Blue), one of the largest and most entrenched guilds, next to White Pass, Easter Lorca, declared of International Tourist Interest.

Most of the works carried out have included the repair of major cracks in the vaults and arches using traditional materials and techniques to ensure the stability of the church and to run another series of works related to finishes and facilities.
