The Cultural Center has hosted this evening an exhibition of the best Easter historic photograph of the masters Rodrigo y Menchón (25/03/2013)

This is a sample of more than fifty images from the period between 1865 and the 1930s.

The opening will be at 19:00 and can be seen until the first weeks of April.

The Councillor for Culture of the City of Lorca, Sandra Martinez, has reported that this evening was opened in the Exhibition Hall of the Cultural Center of our city a retrospective of photographs of Easter.

This is an exhibition composed of more than fifty images from the rich funds retained Lorca Municipal Archives.

The sample covers a chronological period that takes us from 1865, with the first studio portraits to undertake the great photographer lorquino José Rodrigo, until the 30s of XX century, with snapshots that gather outside the presence of floats, banners releases and mantles and the passage of time parade in Espartero mall, Avenida Juan Carlos I. Current

Sandra Martinez stressed that along with the exceptional work of Jose Rodrigo (1837-1916), this exhibition also allows us to see other images of characters from our Easter Menchón Peter, disciple of Rodrigo, an artist who continued to work after the death of his teacher in the photo studio that it could open the street Selgas.

Most of these photographs are studio portraits, either individual or group, in which the participants participating in parades pose with dignity and in a variety of poses on neutral backgrounds and posters painted.

They are very attractive images, made with craft and technical skill, which we see faces, costumes, props, symbolic and ornamental elements, revealing fashions and aesthetic tastes of our parades at different times.

Also included are other snapshots or Juan José Parra Eytier Foulquié Mazon, as a small testimony of amateur photographers.

It is of great interest to note the passing of the parade, and that after a first moment the attire of the groups have a clear sense catechetical (Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, Street of Bitterness, etc.), In the following decades are going to add new groups-Triumph of Christianity, Vision of St. John, etc. - and historical figures of ancient civilizations, Greece, Rome, Egypt, Babylon, etc. - which entail an enrichment of the costumes of extras with the application of silver and gold embroidery that gave greater brilliance and grandeur to the staging.

Gradually, the silk will also appear, which will acquire all its technical leadership in the early years of the twentieth century with the great figurative scenes adorning the sumptuous sets, canopies, blankets, banners, of the Virgin of Sorrows and Our Lady of Dolores.

The Councillor for Culture stressed that this exhibition is a unique opportunity for an exciting journey through our passionate biblical scrolls through photographs that, in addition to reporting what was our Easter, known for its expressive and aesthetic qualities.

The exhibition will remain open until the first week of April, is organized by the Department of Culture and Celebration of HE.
