The deputy of the Socialist Group, Manuel Soler has defended this morning a motion in the General Affairs Committee of the Regional Assembly, in requesting the extension of the powers of the Commissioner for the reconstruction of Lorca, Totana and Puerto Lumbreras, so that also deal with the reconstruction and flood aid.

The PP has rejected the initiative, saying it believes the actions are well coordinated, so do not feel the need to appoint Commissioner Inmaculada García flooding.

The September 28, 2012 there were devastating floods in our region, mainly affecting the Guadalentin Valley area, being the most affected municipalities Lorca, Puerto Lumbreras and Totana.

Damage to crops affected a land area of between 18,000 and 20,000 hectares, while livestock killed over 10,000 animals of different species.

Soler explained that in the most affected areas, which are the Esparragal de Puerto Lumbreras and place of the municipality of Lorca, belonging to the districts of Torrecilla, Campillo and Puri, there is a small group of families who lost all their possessions, crops, animals, furniture, all kinds of furniture, and some of them to the house.

Most of these families did not have at the time of the accident with insurance policies and the few aids that have been approved by the National Government for the victims can charge, are designed to have prerequisite agricultural insurance policy.

"Many of these families do not have those policies, so these neighbors from the garden of Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras not entitled to receive aid to repair the damage they caused the flood".

Soler was disappointed at the rejection of the motion socialist, "because it is recalled that similar disasters occurred before, no government has been abandoned to their fate, as they have the current government of the Popular Party, to families who lost everything he had because of the floods. "

These families have received only after 8 months of waiting, an income of 150 euros against the Bureau for Development of Lorca.

Flood of 1973

Socialist MP said that past floods were similar to those that occurred in 1973, "the difference is that the actions taken then, in the case of Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras, among others, the walls of channeling of rivers served to you on this occasion no overflows have occurred in its passage through both cities.

Soler said that "this big mess we learn that it is necessary to respect the channels of the streams and public water invade the plantations of trees, buildings and retaining walls in the margins, because they reduce the ability of public waterways.'s administrations must act to enforce the legislation, to avoid as far as possible catastrophes of this nature. "

The Socialist parliamentarian added also that the various authorities have to carry out actions in industrial sites, new urban communities, streams and gullies, to vent the water and to avoid disasters such as occurred on September 28, 2012, when recurrence of torrential rains.
