The city of Lorca and the Cancer Association warn of serious skin damage caused by overexposure to sun and heat stroke (27/06/2013)

The Mayor Aldermen and Health Policy Council of Lorca, María del Carmen Ruiz and Antonia Lopez participated this morning in a day of awareness on the prevention of skin cancer and heat stroke, which has been developed at the Alameda of the Constitution to celebrate the traditional weekly market.

This activity has been completed along with lorquina Association Against Cancer, and has included the distribution of information leaflets on "Skin Cancer Prevention."

The activity has also received, assisted in this activity Interapothek company, which has provided 350 samples of the brand sunscreens, which have been distributed among the citizens.

The initiative has also served for a reminder about the need to avoid heat stroke.

This has been engaged in a series of information leaflets with the slogan "Take care of your health. Protect yourself from the heat", which have been supplied by the Ministry of Health.

These establish a comprehensive and effective basic recommendations among which include the following:

- Drink plenty of water, take light meals and avoid going out at times of extreme heat.

- Drink water even if you are not thirsty, juices and cool drinks.

- Eat fruits and green vegetables, avoid hot foods and heavy.

- Stay in the coolest places in the house.

- Take baths and showers, keep your skin hydrated and protected.

- Give children water frequently.

- Use any type of air conditioning (fans, air conditioning) rationally.

- Avoid going out in extreme hot hours, from noon until sunset.

- Walk in the shade, wear comfortable clothing and light colors and carries a bottle of water.

- Do not stand, nor let anyone in the car with the windows closed.

- Avoid sports and physical activity decreases the heat of the day, if you have to take precautions.

This initiative has aimed to raise awareness of the harmful effects Lorca with the heat and sun when temperatures extreme values ​​recorded with the arrival of summer.

The elderly, along with children and outdoor workers are the group most sensitive to suffer the dreaded heat stroke and sunburn to suffer skin.

Remember that the most sensitive to excessive heat are over 65, infants and children under 4 years, overweight and obesity, people with respiratory or heart disease, mental disorders or those who perform physical exertion.
