The Councillor for Culture of the City of Lorca, Sandra Martinez, stated this morning that the initiative to declare as Well Listed Lorca known archaeological site "Cerro de Los puches" is a story that underscores the importance of our city as a leader in the study of prehistory in the Iberian Peninsula.

We are talking about a location listed as settlement and dated by researchers at the Chalcolithic period late antiquity, especially between IV-III millennium BC is a reservoir located in the hamlet of Lower Tirieza, in the County of Fontanares.

Is located in an isolated hill, a few meters from the bank of the River Vélez-Corneros.

The top has a flat surface where rock outcrops partly.

In detail we talk about a settlement with two phases of occupation, the early Chalcolithic (IV-III millennium) and other Late Antiquity (ss. V-VII d. C.), released in the systematic exploration work carried out in the campaign of 1996, as part of a larger study on prehistoric and historic settlement in the valley of the Rio Velez or Corneros.

It is characterized by the presence of structural remains and material elements, ceramic and lithic, recorded mainly at the top of the relief.

They note gritty alignments were well attached to the rock or in conjunction with other structures, which could be the basis for the elevation walls of housing units.

The ceramics are composed mostly of crude production and torneta hand, medium to dark tone, red wine color, abundant coarse size degreasing with a predominance of shale fragments accompanied imbrices (Roman tiles barrel).

At the same time, documents some industry remains of flint flakes and debitage, with tiny traces of prehistoric pottery reports.

Navarro Martínez explained that already exists about a report issued by technicians Heritage Service of the Ministry of Culture of the CARM which justifies the interest of the archaeological site to its declaration as well cataloged.

The purpose of the statement as well Listed on this site is to protect and preserve its archaeological heritage.

Thus, in the non-archaeological search, collection or removal of archaeological materials, and the use of metal detectors or dumping of solid waste, unless authorized by the Directorate General with responsibility for cultural heritage.

In the archaeological area Current land use is compatible with the conservation of the site, but any action that involves the removal of the ground in undisturbed areas or dimensions, and report must have permission of the Directorate General with responsibility for cultural heritage .
