The exhibition and "Traces of Jewish Culture in Lorca" arrives at the Auditorium San Francisco de Avila (20/08/2013)

Tourism Councilman Lorca, Francisco Montiel, together with the Mayor of Avila, Miguel Angel Garcia, inaugurate this exhibition present at the Exhibition Hall of the Municipal Auditorium August 20 to September 8.

Today, Tuesday August 20, at 19:00 hours, the Exhibition Hall of the Municipal Auditorium in San Francisco de Avila will be starring culture by temporary exhibition opening itinerant "Traces of Jewish Culture in Lorca", organized by the City Lorca, in collaboration with the city of Avila.

This show, which makes its third stop in its tour through different cities with significant Spanish Sephardic legacy in Avila, aims to show the historical legacy, heritage and culture of the Jewish presence in the city of Lorca in medieval times.

The aim is to present not only the history of this community, but also disclose details of their daily lives, professional, religious or material culture, that is, enter into the intimacy of family life, day to day, the Jews who lived during the late Middle Ages in the Castle of Lorca.

The exhibition is divided into five areas ranging from the Jewish diaspora to the specific case of the Jewish castellated Lorca, exposed in several panels, and give us an idea of ​​what daily life was like for these companies in the Middle Ages (with the synagogue as the central space of religious life) and in the case of the Jewish discovered in Lorca Castle, a showcase reproductions exposed horizontal pieces found in archaeological excavations, a model of the same with two recreations of lamps as well as a multimedia screen footage on the history of the Jewish quarter and synagogue lorquina recently joined the city's cultural visits.

The basis for the development of the exhibition was due to information provided by the excavations in recent years of Jewry in the Castle of Lorca in which, in addition to bringing to light many homes and a synagogue that stands out for its great condition, have recovered numerous objects (ceramics, metal objects, lamps, hannukiyas, etc. ..) that shed more light on the daily life of the Jews Lorca.

The Exhibition Hall of Avila Municipal Auditorium hosts this exhibition of August 20 to September 8, during opening hours of the Chamber (see website: http://www.avila.es/areas-destacadas/cultura-y -leisure).
