The City Cultural Center tomorrow afternoon hosting the first meeting of parents and professionals Down Association Lorca (17/09/2013)

NGOs Councilmember of the City of Lorca, Antonio Lopez, and President of the Association for people with Down syndrome in the region of Lorca (Lorca Down), José Ortuño, presented the first meeting of parents and professionals of this group recently created.

The event, which the association you start your activities will take place at the Cultural Center of the City tomorrow, Wednesday, September 18 at 19:00 pm with free admission and is open to the public but especially aimed at parents, relatives, pediatricians , support teachers, mentor teachers, ...

The meeting will open the team psychologist for Early Intervention Murcia-2 and associate professor of the Faculty of Education at the University of Murcia, Isidoro Candel, which will address the early years and schooling of children with Down syndrome.

Behind him is the doctor of medicine, scientific advisor to the Down Syndrome Foundation of Cantabria, President of the American Foundation Down 21 (www.down.21.org) and author of several books and articles on disability intelectural syndrome and Down, Jesus Florez, setting out his thoughts on the adolescent and adult with Down syndrome.

The Association "Down Lorca" is a nonprofit group with scope in the region of Lorca, which integrates people with Down syndrome, intellectual disabilities and their families.

It is in 2013 on the initiative of a group of parents of people with Down syndrome, committed to finding solutions to the particular problems associated with this disability.

The Association aims to undertake activities that contribute to improving the lives of people with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities in order to get a full family and social integration and develop a life with the greatest degree of independence possible.

For this they have planned to open in October at its own headquarters Crossing Juan Carlos I, No. 12, Residential Plaza Nueva, ladder 5 under K.

Down's syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of an extra copy of chromosome 21 (or a portion thereof), rather than the usual two, so it is also called trisomy 21.

The mayor pointed out that "this group has the backing of the City since its founding and children under six years who have this syndrome are treated at the Municipal Center for Early, whose new facilities have been upgraded recently."
