370 students from the districts of Lorca involved in the project Paidos educational support, doubling the number of beneficiaries from two years ago (12/11/2013)

The City Council Local Development Council of Lorca, Eulalia Ibarra has reported this morning that about 370 students from schools in San Cristobal, Juan González, Andrés García Soler, Casa del Niño and Jose Robles, participate during this academic year in the program Paidos, educational support, framed within the Urban Community Initiative of the Barrios Altos de Lorca, co-financed by the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) and the Consistory.

Ibarra explained that "in this way we will double the number of beneficiaries who two years ago took part in this program, in addition to the hours of work performed, as we have gone from two to four the number of teachers involved in this project. Lali Ibarra stated that "the objectives we work with this project are to promote equal opportunities in education for all children, paying special attention to those most disadvantaged; prevent absenteeism and school failure to achieve the objectives of the Elementary Education; enable specific attention, supporting curriculum acquisition and linguistic skills necessary for their full integration into the educational system in cases of curricular gaps and in the case of immigrant students with no knowledge of Spanish. Moreover, we seek to facilitate social integration and education of students and their families, promoting respect between different cultures. "

The council has stressed the success of this program, "which has been highly appreciated by the management teams of schools and last year when we present it had planned to participate in it 224 students and eventually reached 316 beneficiaries."

The acceptance of Paidos has been expressed repeatedly by educational teams, and therefore the City has extended this project that contributes to the social integration of the children of this area, following the principle announced by the council and that "with ERDF funds in the coming years take precedence social activities and employment in Uptown, as the bulk of the cost of remodeling and improving infrastructure of Uptown will be borne by the region ".
