Edited the conclusions of the Conference on Heritage at Risk (06/03/2014)

The mayor of Culture stands out as most important example of the application of these recommendations to reduce the pitch of the roofs of the church of Santiago, which has been lightened by 150 tonnes.

The Councillor for Culture of the City of Lorca, Sandra Martinez, reported that the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, through the Technical Secretariat of the General Department of Documentation and Publications, publishes the contents Heritage Days at Risk Museums and Earthquakes.

This is the event analysis and study that took place in Lorca after the earthquake of 2011 and was organized by the Ministry of Culture and Ibermuseos Program in collaboration with the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID), the General Secretariat (SEGIB), the Government of the Region of Murcia and the City of Lorca

Martínez Navarro noted that among the conclusions of these days, it was noted that before an earthquake damaged the most historic structures are those that have been repaired with rigid reinforced concrete structural elements.

Such materials or construction techniques should be avoided in restorations and always use compatible materials and construction systems.

Moreover, it was considered necessary to adapt the rules and especially the Technical Building Code and Seismic Standard, the characteristics and needs of the cultural heritage.

These findings have been taken into account when implementing the reclamation works on different elements of the architectural heritage of our city.

Perhaps the most significant example of the application of these recommendations can be found in the reconstruction of the church of Santiago, where jobs have contemplated replacing old items other lighter and more resistant to earthquakes.

This method has reduced the weight of the covers over 150 tons.

The Councillor for Culture has also said that the reclamation works, in general, have allowed the gradual incorporation of the latest technologies and new materials for the prevention of damage to property in risks associated with an earthquake.
