Reopening the station (14/03/2014)

The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar by the Deputy Minister for Works, Mario Garcés, and the Delegate of the Government in the Region of Murcia, Joaquín Bascuñana, inaugurated the railway station Sutullena Lorca, after completion of the restoration work , improvement and repair have been developed at its facilities to address the damage caused to the building by the earthquakes of 2011.

Note that this action, which represents an investment of over 1.5 million, including comprehensive treatment of the passenger building, platforms and outdoor spaces, ensuring accessibility for people with disabilities.

The works, which have been developed by ADIF, have seen the full rehabilitation of the railway Sutullena Lorca, damaged by the earthquake that hit the city.

After this earthquake, ADIF necessary works executed in glass pergola attached to the historic building to provide services and ticket information.

The completed work includes treating the building rating (351.9 m2), platforms and outside spaces.

The works carried out, in detail, are as follows:

Design: The project gets the double-height central volume and two lateral bodies of single height, respecting the pre-earthquake design.

The central body is composed of a double-height lobby with an area of ​​149.5 m2 aimed at travelers and users of the station.

The lateral bodies consist of a single height for offices of ADIF and dinner.

Andenes and carport:

- New flooring in the main dock (374 m2) with high slip resistance tiles and routing signaling.

- Placement of fixtures, furniture and signage.

- The marquee returns to its previous design with wooden joists and steel deck plate on its outer layer.

Damaged items have been restored.

- New network Drainage downspouts and drains.

Last year ADIF important actions carried out in the area, including between stations Lorca and Aguilas, where several studies were performed to repair damage caused by flooding.

The work, which involved an investment of 6,755,400 euros (excluding VAT), were implemented in both infrastructure (embankments, trenches, bridges and drainage works) and the superstructure (via, and facilities protection of level crossings) in addition to their corresponding adjustment in anticipation of risks from weather.

The most outstanding performances focused on stretch 16 miles from Lorca-Eagles (52 kilometers), with the reconstruction of the viaduct on the Rambla de Nogalte; reconstruction of 500 m of embankment in the Eagles Almendricos-section, replacing the damaged railway track and installation of new track path in the areas affected.
