Lorca exhibits at the Royal Academy of Sciences work developed for the recovery of the city (30/04/2014)

It is a meeting organized based on Know4DRR (Disaster Risk Reduction in integration Adaptation to climate change) European project, which has developed in Madrid under the coordination of the Institute of Geosciences (IGEO).

Councilmember Management Recovery after Earthquake in Lorca, Satur Martinez has exhibited in Madrid the main aspects of the work developed in the wake of the situation caused by the earthquake that occurred in this city in 2011. The intervention of the mayor, framed in debate on scientific knowledge, disaster risk reduction and adaptation to climate change: challenges and opportunities, focused on publicizing how was the response of local government to the new context emerged in the city .

Thus, in the framework of the conference organized analysis by the Institute of Geosciences (IGEO) and the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences, and based on Know4DRR Project (Disaster Risk Reduction in integration Adaptation to climate change ), Satur Martinez explained that the City had to multiply efforts and innovate on the fly in order to respond to the demand originated.

The mayor recalled that the first activity focused on addressing the emergency, coordinate the arrival of support services (police officers, Police, emergency services and care, Emergency Military Unit ...) and transfer to citizens all data on the consequences of the tragedy, the work was proceeding and service information about it.

One of the most complex tasks, and that was done in record time, was overseeing all properties nestled in the village, with the support of hundreds of technicians coming from different parts of Spain who performed an exercise of solidarity and selfless effort worthy of praise.

This work was vital for citizens knew the extent of the damage that the earthquake had caused on their property and to return to their homes.

The mayor has detailed that once served the most urgent situations, the City Mayor, Francisco Jodar, decided to establish a new Department that is dedicated exclusively to serving the citizens advice they needed to normalize their situación2E This entity is responsible for collect all the situations and affected by channel their requests to be resolved.

The result of this daily work was the realization that it was necessary to establish a reform of the Condominium Act.

It was correct so-called "blocking minority" that, because it was necessary to have the unanimity of all building owners to rebuild, paralyzing its rebuilding, hurting neighbors who wanted to rebuild itself.
