290.000 euros for the restoration of the Fountain of Gold Lorca (11/07/2014)

The Governing Council has agreed on a proposal from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Universities, the award of a grant to the City of Lorca, worth 290,000 euros, for the drafting and implementation of rehabilitation works for The Source Gold and environment.

This agreement is included in the Master Plan for the Recovery of Cultural Heritage Lorca and financed by the loan from the European Investment Bank aimed at alleviating the damage caused by earthquakes in 2011.

The objective is to recover and to value these assets, included in the catalog of Real Historical and whose first reference dates from 1269.

This is one of the best known public fountains in the city of Lorca and, together with the Source Cano, supplied drinking water to the population.

It was composed of the pipes coming out of the water and a watering or laundry.

As a result of earthquakes, suffered the collapse of the north and south walls, with the consequent danger of collapse affecting pedestrian traffic area, the sidewalk and the driveway to the street poet Vico.

Is also affected by numerous cracks between the pavement and the top of the wall and experienced a general deterioration in the stone parameters.

The work will consist in drafting the project, recovery of trace levels and original paving and restoration of the walls and flooring, as well as the recovery of the vessel and pipes, among other actions.

More than 93,000 euros to restore the aisle of the church of Our Lady of the Assumption of Lorca

The Cabinet has approved a proposal from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Universities, a grant of 93,581 euros to the Diocese of Cartagena for the implementation of the restoration of the aisle of the church of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Lorca.

This grant is included in the Master Plan for the recovery of this heritage town.

The aim is to restore the aisle on the Gospel side of the temple, which was severely damaged by the earthquakes that struck Lorca in 2011.

The building included in the census of Cultural Heritage Assets in the Region, was badly damaged, as the inclination of the two towers and falling roof tiles and moldings and eardrum, and decorative elements such as falling fragments the cornice of the eardrum and coatings.

Thus, the recovery work, whose execution time is fixed to the end of June 2016, will focus on the adequacy and leaded roofs, repairing cracks and stitching of the exterior walls.

Likewise, conducted the adequacy and repair of the interior parameters and their coatings and repair floors and woodwork, ironwork and glass.
