The Socialist Party calls for government action to resolve the current agony of irrigation water in Lorca (10/10/2014)

The municipal and regional socialist deputy spokesman, Manuel Soler has claimed public authorities undertake actions to alleviate the current suffering agony Lorca fields for lack of water for irrigation.

The Community Irrigation Lorca suffered cuts to supply water from the Tajo Segura has been forced to ration irrigation, applying a quota per hectare.

Manuel Soler said the problem for farmers is that they have made contracts plant, prepared land and products committed to supermarkets, both in our country and abroad and now will have to reduce their plantations.

The Lorca socialists are concerned about things like availability of water for irrigation in Lorca are complicated and none of the administrations of PP does nothing to solve it, even though there are solutions.

Measures

Soler believes that the first step you have to perform the Government of Spain is to launch a National Drought Decree, for the Segura basin can apply urgent measures, such as the commissioning of the dry wells.

Also small connection works to communicate the different existing networks, handle different flow rates to solve serious problems and any other measure aimed at resolving conflicts created by drought.

The PSOE proposes other short-term measures, some of them, such as making an exchange so that the Commonwealth provide Taibilla Channel in Cartagena, to supply water plant tailings and this yields to the water from irrigators in Lorca the Tajo Segura.

Soler recalled that CARM has this desalination plant in tailings, with capacity to produce 23 hm3 / year and is currently producing 25% of its capacity.

"We are paying 20 million euros each year for her Murcia, a figure that we have to pay it even if the plant is stopped," he lamented.

Soler said the same operation can be performed with Acuamed plant, located in the town of Eagle, where the Community Irrigation can have 23 hm3.

"What happens is that the pipeline not be installed on most of the routes to bring water to the distribution centers of the CR Lorca, this can only consume a quarter of the total available," he said.

In this sense, the socialist deputy added that it is necessary to comply with the proposed resolution by the Parliamentary Socialist Group and approved by the Regional Assembly considered as works of installing emergency general pipeline to convey water from the desalination plant Eagles from the Cerro Colorado to the distribution centers of the Community Irrigation Lorca.
